Alright, we have met Eduardo, Gary, and Chip at Auto Assets.

We have had a delicious lunch at Quaker Steak and Lube.

Now, I am back at Auto Assets, cooling my heels. It has gone wrong.
The Red Witch was not back together. Now, the repaired transmission cooler hose crimp is leaking. They don't know if I will get the Red Witch today or not.

jetson8859: Thanks for the advice about the horn contact arm. IF I get the Red Witch this is evening, I plan on installing the Momo wheel tomorrow morning.

I am not overly concerned about the road trip. I am going to do a shakedown cruise and go from there.
Thanks!

docmirror: That is my worry. I have never been much of a long distance driver. I have done it many time, just never enjoyed it that much. We shall see once(IF) I get rolling on this road trip.
Thanks!

Thanks Farris! Hold off on the popcorn, we are stalled.

More to come...

It's never a good sign when you show up to pick up a car and the car is still on the hoist. Make sure to do a really good shakedown test drive before heading out. Don't be too gentle with the car, put it through it's paces before paying or it. If something will let go, this is the time for it to happen, not down the road half way home.

As for driving a 928 for 16-18 hrs is easy, my experience is that driving that long is not easy, regardless what it is and how old you are.

I would, but she is still on the lift, may not come off today.

Don't know yet.

And with that...we are done for the day.
The Red Witch will spend the night on the lift and I am hoofing a ride to Urbana.

They fixed the leaking crimp in the transmission cooling line. Only to have the other crimped connection leak. It too is now fixed.
However, now the technician does not have enough time to finish reassembly, road test, and evaluate.
It will be tomorrow.

Don't be too disappointed Seth. You are on 928 time now.
928 time is kind of like island time where 1 o'clock actually means sometime in the afternoon. Or Tuesday means sometime next week. Or in my case having the car ready for sharks in the mountains .......we just don't know which year. Lol

Maybe you can go see your people now and get that red witch on the way back through.?.?

Congrats!

You have done it right Seth.

You did your research, found out about the car on the forums and familiarized yourself with 928s overall.

AND you have had your 928 brothers to help see you through...

The 928 community is very tight nit and very much like a family.

Beautiful car and in my favorite color (Guards Red- aka Indischrot).

Soak it all in.

May this be one of the most magical days of your life.

Welcome to the Brotherhood!

Frank

ps. I would much rather see the car on the lift and know that they are trying to get it fixed...instead of them just trying to hustle you out the door before you figure out something's HORRIBLY wrong

At this point I would let one of 928 guys drive it with you along, since they will be more intimately familiar with how things should be and if there is anything else out of whack. Also take the steps I mentioned earlier and as I previously mentioned spend at least an hr driving locally in case any other issues pop up.

Just be patient...you are approaching this in the right manner!

Sorry for your pick-up problems. They militate even more strongly for a serious shakedown before you get too far away from the seller, shop, and a supportive club.

The I-270 outerbelt around Columbus is ~70miles and a loop or two makes for a pretty comprehensive check ride. Ask me how I know.

Have fun on the road.

Ever notice that the frequency of left-lane cruisers increases as you go south from Cleveland, peaking in Tennessee? "If you wanted to be in front of me, you should have left earlier."

Upstate Bob is one those drivers. if the limit is 70 I'll be in the left----at 70.
(leave earlier)

WTF just means you get passed on the right..... if some people can afford to speed just get out of the way....it costs you NOTHING to let people get past you...talk about passive aggressive. California freeways you might just get shot for running the speed limit in the left lane 80 mph in a 65 is the norm with many going faster !!

^^ I am from SoCal and can vouch for this. You better be going 10 over in the left lane or else you risk getting shot (as stated above) or causing accidents due to people passing on the other lanes.

I personally drive like a German, I drive fast in the left lane and expect slower traffic to get out of the way.

I hope for your safe travels and a reliable 928 on your journey. They are great roadtrip cars when everything is working, especially the ac in summer ...

Seth, Looking forward to the update. Trans lines can become a very "hot" issue especially if leaking on the cats. Really need to keep a close eye and if possible put it on a dyno or something that will allow you to check it out while in a stationary position in gear.
Beautiful car, congrats. Nothing more satisfying than " living the dream".

I did learn a few new things about the Red Witch from the PO, Pete, over lunch.

-the cats were replaced by Devek test pipes way back when
-there is a baffle under the oil filler. Don't think it is a Greg Brown piece, but similar mentality
-the MetalMaster brake pads are a compromise between street and track

Good to know.
