The Deputy: Thanks for the cred.

I plan on doing this safely, and enjoyably. I just blew 16 large pulling this off. No way do I want to wad it up or end up in a county jail in West Virginia. I am going to drive like I have some sense.

I will be checking in often, updating this thread as I go. Starting with leaving for the airport in the morning and going from there.
Thanks!

zaevor2000: Thanks! I am very much looking forward to this. I have never taken a long trip for the sake of a long trip. It has always to get somewhere for a purpose. And...I have never taken a long trip in a car meant to be DRIVEN.
I am definitely treating this as an adventure.

More to come...

Easy to put 15-18 hours in a 928. I love the way it sings to me after getting fuel and hitting the on ramp. Awesome times ahead for you. Enjoy!

Have a great, safe trip - enjoy that car. Nothing like loooong distance cruising in a shark!

Supercedar: Thank you! I am hoping to only be at it for around 10 hours. I am very much looking forward to hearing this 5 liter V-8 howl.

MEBound: Thanks! I have never done something like this, and am looking forward to it.

linderpat: Thanks! I want to get to know my shark, and this is a helluva way to do it.

Ugh.
Up wayyyyyyy earlier than I am used to.
Had my wife drive me to Charlotte Douglas airport.
Trivia: did you know that you don't have to maintain at least a car length between you and the vehicle in front of you? Rosie doesn't. I am thankful to have survived and made it to the airport.

I have checked in my top heavy luggage and made it through security.
Now, at gate C9, I am awaiting boarding in less than an hour.

The Red Witch is not expected to be ready until late afternoon. So, after lunch I will find a way to kill some of time.

Excellent news!

Have him run you through an orientation on the controls (how to operate the lights, pop the hood, etc).

Also have him show you the routine maintenance stuff (pop the hood and know where to check the fluid levels and where to add as well). Make sure you are topped off and know where to add more if needed.

Have him show you where the fuse box is located (a wooden, excuse me naturally occurring composite) on the passenger side and check the fuses while you're at it.

Also have him show you where the battery is located (in the rear under the carpet, under the spare, under the lid) in case you need a jump for some reason.

I HIGHLY recommend driving locally for at least an hour or so. If something breaks you don't want to be stranded 100 miles out in the middle of nowhere... (I drove mine around LA for 2 hrs before heading out across the desert back to Texas. Did NOT want to be stranded out in the desert...).

Just want to make sure you have an enjoyable adventure home without any issues...

Others please chime in as well

Frank

May you have a safe and wonderful trip home!

I am now on the ground in Columbus, OH. I have survived the airport process with my baggage intact.

Now I am awaiting buccicone's arrival in an inky black shark...

Seth,

Enjoy the trip! When I bought mine a little over 2 years ago, I rushed to get a bunch of work done before 3rd Coast. I pulled it out of the shop at 3pm two days before the event and started driving to Texas from Atlanta. Great trip and with AAA wasn't too worried about getting stranded, actually thought it might happen but made it the 1,300 miles there and back with no issues. 😊

If your mounting the Momo wheel before leaving make sure your horn contact is good before buttoning up. (Ask me how I know) There is a raised metal finger on the combo switch that contacts a metal ring on the bottom of the Momo hub and I had to bend the finger up a couple mm to get good contact for horn to work properly consistently.

Good luck and enjoy the ride!

zaevor2000: Very good suggestions! I have been studying the owner's manual. I have it and the Morehouse CD's on my ipad in case I have an issue. I had planned on having buccicone and Auto Assets give me the nickle tour of my 928S.

I am not heading straight to the road trip. I will be puttering around Columbus a bit, then heading to Urbana. Saturday I am visiting family and going to dinner. I expect to put around 100 miles on the Red Witch before I set out on the road trip.

Thanks!

Depends on driver age. I put >10 hours on a 928 a few weeks back from Allentown PA to Athens TN and when I got in, I was spent. Doing anything for >10 hours after 50 is a grind. However, the 928 is a good car to do it in if you have to do it.

Have fun, but don't succumb to get-there-itis. If you have to stop, then do it, and arrive in one piece.
