Here is crest vs ****
I can remember some conversation about the **** on this forum but can't find it. Surprised there is no picture or reference to it in my owner's manual.

Love the green interior. I would like to see it in my silver car instead of black.

Hmm? I don't know. I have seen that **** before, I think it may be from a later car. Hopefully someone will chime in

IIRR **** closes center vents and it was only used in early cars. Some cars do not have it. Later versions have full width vents.

That's it. Shined a light in while working the ****. A flap from above opens and closes. So, how is the vent closed on #412? Always open? The center vent is the only source of AC air I think. A mid production change for '78.

Love the pictures! Glad you #412 is getting exercise, use it or lose it (Jack LaLanne!)

OB's are very special in their own way.

yes the center vent on my car is only open when the AC ( which is non -op at this time) is on. I wonder if my #412 originally had the smaller vents? ....and more pictures

My crazy friends who took this picture unbeknowst to me. I would not have approved it, but the car was unscathed

78 #225 no ****.

Also, 78 #613 had the same vent system, no ****.

I believe it was the later 78 and beyond that had the ****.

So 917 is late? How many '78's produced?

How is the AC vent controlled on the early cars? Vacuum? Electric?

The early '78 knobless vent is controlled by vacuum, the flap is closed unless there's vacuum from the engine. Vacuum comes from the orange hose off the HVAC head.

Here's from #107- interesting that the little pedestal for the **** is there but the rest of the gearing isn't.

Thanks Rob. Wonder why they started with vacuum operation? Especially since the plastic piece was prepared for the manual approach. I suppose the vacuum method was subject to failure for some reason so they changed the system.

[QUOTE=Jim Chambers;13440201]I think the buzzer goes with the fasten seat belt reminder light.

Thanks Jim, makes sense. This feature never functioned on my other 928's so it caught me off guard. It sounds so odd, I just figured it was something else I had to fix. Cheers

Just learned that if I buckle my seat belt before turning on the ignition I don't have to hear the annoying buzz.

This car has been out of commission since Thanksgiving. See associated threads here: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...back-in-s.html and https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...n-my-78-a.html it seems the previous owners mechanic did not use any grease on the clutch plate and shaft splines and it wore out despite plenty of life left on the friction surfaces.

I have really REALLY missed her. I made sure the new clutch and short shaft from Gerg B received the Super special Porsche grease as well as my reused PP fingers and new release bearing. (I hope reusing the PP was OK).

My torque tube was noisy so I also got a rebuilt one from 928 International. After removing the TT i found a broken 5th gear and found a used '78 LSD transmission for a bargain. I will be sending my matching numbers one to Greg B for a rebuild eventually.

Thank you to Otto (Eplebnista), Greg B(GregBBRD), Stan (Mr Merlin), Alex(VanD), Dave928s, WisconsinJoe, Jim Doerr (Jadz928), and everyone else who helped and offered great advice.

So at this point, the following parts are new:

1. Rebuilt torque tube.
2. Dual discs # 928.116.011.35 and .36 respectively.
3. Pilot bearing.
4. Release/ throw out bearing.
5. Clutch guide tube
6. Two ball cup bushings. 1 for the clutch fork and 1 for the shifter cup.
7. Ample "Porsche" super duper special grease.
8. Replaced bushing in the rear coupler.
9. Brake master cylinder .

I resurfaced the flywheel and reused the PP and intermediate plate. I reused the flywheel bolts and got new clamp bolts for the fore and aft TT coupler clamps.

Greg B's short clutch shaft!
