928 on Jalopnik

Like Tony above I went from a 928GTS to a 991C2S. I've told many; if the 928 was still in production the 991 is what it would be! It's faster, handles better, better fuel economy, just as comfortable (if not more so) and drives very much like a good 928! The advances in technology on the 991 would be on the 928 if the world economy hadn't forced its demise. I loved my 928's, both the 89GT and the 93GTS, but the 991 is a better car. Sorry Boys, but it's a fact!
Think of where the 928 would be with an additional 16 years of development....

Back in the day when 928 GTS's were new Porsche sold an air cooled 911 (993) and the 968 (last version of the 944).
The 928 was light years ahead of both alternatives and given +20 years has passed since the last 928 was built its no wonder the latest 911 has caught up.........took them long enough!

I have been saying as long as I have been around rennlist that the 993 was the pivotal turning point when the 911 headed towards becoming more of a GT car than a true sports car not unlike the 928. I think the GTS rocks and most all 928's are similar vs. the 911's which have changed so much over the years. Nice cars to drive the 991 has a lot as a DD but not for me just too darn large and computerized.

Enjoy the car and no need to place one over the other they belong side by side and both have a place in my book of dream cars. IMO it is about time these cars receive some credit and place in the Porsche lineage for the great cars they are.

My point was to make comparison to what was available from Porsche in the same timeframe rather than to models that are +20 years apart in design/engineering and manufacture.

That is the most ridiculous statement I have seen in a while. Of course it is the better car. It has benefitted from another 30yrs of evolution. My V10 M5 wagon was miles better than the previous M5 3.8 Wagon. It is called progress. However, a 991 feels like a BMW, not a Porsche. A new 911 or BMW doesn't tug on the emotional strings. That's why Singer can ask and achieve $500k for a re-engineered 964...

Why is singer always thrown up as the pinnacle? And it is $700k for a well optioned one above the price of the 964. Give me a Ruf especially his latest releases any day of the week. There is a difference between re-imagining and re-engineering and Ruf has shown who is king once again.

The reason Singer was used is very simple - underneath the carbon fibre and nice leather it is a 964 chassis. Underneath the latest RUF - huge fan of them - it is the latest 911. It will be anodyne and digital. It cannot be anything else. Yes, miles better than the standard car, but if you want that unique feeling that you get when you drive your 964T or that I get when I spank my 996.1 GT3 CS on track, we need to look somewhere else.

My 14 boxster was larger and my sons A3 makes it look small. That is one of the unique things about the 928. It is spacious inside and looks large and menacing but is still small enough to be fun.
I was in an F612 the other day and it was huge.
