Default Cam Cover End Cap Seals MY 85

I already did the rears a couple years ago when I was having oil leaks from there. Since replacement, no leaks at all.

Doing a little small stuff this week end, decided to do the fronts. Easy, except the Passenger Side. The Timing Belt Cover and the backing to it look too close to get the End Cap out. Will it come out without taking the Timing Belt Cover off? Or more importantly, can I get the new End Cap in, without taking the Timing Belt Cover off? No interference for the hold arm, so no problem there.

Experienced advise please.

I just did it on my 86.5 with the TB cover off and it was no problem, just a slightly tight fit but no forcing. This was using a new seal with separate arm.

So you had the TB cover off? You don't think it can be done with the TB cover on? It looks to me that the TB cover itself isn't interfering, it's the back of the cover that is. Maybe I'm not seeing this right?

the old seal pictured should come out without issue.
The new cap plug may take some effort to install

I had the TB covers off because I was installing new cam sprockets, etc., but I don't think it would be necessary. And my guess is that Stan is right, some cases might take more effort than others as the clearances would vary slightly from engine to engine.

the old style seal is a hard plastic cap held in with the bolt and a thin rubber seal once the bolt comes out twist the arm upwards some then remove it,

a hook tool will pull out the rubber seal if your finger cant grab it

We will simply use a large hammer, claw side to rip it out, business side to pound the new one in

Just as Stan said. With a little effort the old style seal came right out and the new seal pushed in with no problems.
