Default s4 lump seized path forward?

Hi,

Bought a s4 longblock for project. I expected it to have problems, but it is preety complete.

It had been stored with the intakes off. I have been able to remove 2 pistons so far, but still can't turn crank. At current position, none of the other rods will clear the bores. It is currently sitting with Marvel in the remaining bores.

Is it possible to remove the lower cradle so I can get some crank rotation?

Thanks,
Carlos

well...of course it's possible.

But that's the -last- thing adding any friction to the assembly.

Pictures?????

Carlos,
Can you not remove the pan? My guess would be that the steel bits have rusted (think crank). That should be visible just by removing the pan.

go ahead and remove the cradle.....the crank needs to come out anyway.. you need to see what is happening with the bearings.

Success! More questions and lesson learned.

Generally, all the pistons had the scraper ring frozen, except 7 and 8 all of the rings were rusted.
The thrust bearing was showing copper. Here is the picture.

I think it is ok, but need advice. It was getting late and I was packing up tools and parts. I will take a closer look this evening.

What about these bores? Time to shop for a another motor?

The lesson I learned was never let japanese fan boys touch your tools or projects. I walked to my table to tag and bag a piston, I guess he thought he was going to help me, by trying to pound out number 7 by hitting the skirt. I have know this guy for about a year using the wrong tool for the wrong job. That piston is going to very close examination.

Open for suggestions and advice.

Thanks

Carlos

Did rats **** in the cylinders while the engine was sitting? Was there any sign of that in there?

That engine likely suffered a head gasket failure - looks very familiar.

Hi,

I'm aircooled and do head gasket delete on my motors. Consensus was that the head gaskets "looked ok". I'll shoot a pic tonight.

Bores are still a question mark. No gouges or scratches. Maybe just discoloted from moisture in bores?

Going to need a group 1 orphan piston. Yes, fanboy fractured it.

suggest you fracture fan boy ... bores may clean up with the special bore compound used after boring
