Definitely not as cool as the real, limited edition 928 watches that Sean and James did, but it's the next best thing..
My wife gave me a Huawei Android Wear watch for Christmas. At first I thought it was way to techy for me to appreciate it, but then I found out that you can customize the faces to be whatever you want.
I played around with a 928-themed face a bit. I'm thinking that the speedo, tach or analog clock might be a cool face as well...
The 928 image was a .jpg that I'd done a few years ago, so yes...
You can opt to do an indiglo looking face when powered down, or you can select the various components that dim down on power save.
There's an app called Watchmaker that allows you to make a face from scratch, or modify any face in their 'repository'. As you can imagine, there are thousands of faces that folks have done, and many likenesses to high end watches (Cartier, B&M, Rolex, Breitling, etc) that people have 'cloned'. The app is very user-friendly and everything can be done from a Smartphone.
The Huawei is like Apples iWatch, only more classic looking (and more expensive). It's pretty much a wearable connection to your Smartphone. If you're a loyal iPhone guy, the Android Wear not for you, but if you're an Android user, you're in luck.
Not cheap, but a very neat, well made watch.
I've gotten to really like and use my Huawei. For instance when I'm skiing and want to read and reply to a text on the lift without taking my phone out or even taking my gloves off...
The watch buzzes, I read the text (my daughter asking me if I'm on the front or back mountain for instance), and I press "reply" and speak into the watch.
It also navigates using my Android, so I can get turn-by-turn directions on my wrist while on my motorcycle.
To customize the faces, you just upload an app on your phone that allows you to custom create faces. These can be shared with other Wear watch users the same way a .jpg file can be shared, so if you're not into the creative side of things, you just upload a face that someone else made.
...I guess I should keep this thread to 928-related - or move it over to the RL watch thread...
Does it leak oil on you when you use the Triumph design?
Here's a face using a photo of the 928 speedo. The photo makes it look bluish for some reason.
The odometer is a stopwatch, and the VDO starts and stops the timer.
The other pic is in power save/standby mode.
I haven't perfected on paper what I want my custom 928 design to be yet, but I did have fun with multiple active elements making this 'black light party' themed face.
