Default Intensive washer tank 1977 #398

Hi

Hi my question is two fold. First off has anybody seen a intensive washer tank like on my Euro #398, which only has one hole for the return-line on top? Other early 928s I have seen have had it from the "fill-cap". Later models have two 90-degrees bend on the top, one for breather hose and one for return line.

Second question as there is only a hole in mine now, can I get these 90-degrees plastic bends bought somewhere without buying a used tank? I really want to keep it as original as possible.

To talk to my self a bit
After looking at all the great threads here lately of early 928s it seems that all of them that have the "one-hose" solution has the hose coming out of the red cap. This leads me to the conclusion that the previous owner might have drilled this hole! : (

So my new question then becomes, is the red cap with a hole in it available from somewhere? I see the old cap is a vw/audi part and the later one (the one I have) a Porsche part.

Looking at pictures and zooming in it seems the part id for the old cap is 823 955 4xx and thats all I could see

It's hard to believe someone just drilled a hole in the tank. Doesn't it have a nipple that the hose slides onto?

I looked at my 78 US last night, and it has the hose coming out of the cap. I believe the extra one I have is the same.

Your car being earlier may account for the difference...I surely wouldn't do a thing until the jury was in on its worth. If you decide to change it and can't find one...I'll mail you my extra. It's not in prefect shape, but...I could shoot you some pictures and let you decide.

Brian.

Brian.
I agree, but at the same time it would not surprise me, based on some other stuff the previous owners have done Currently there was no hose connected to the tank, in the hole he had super-glued a straight-connector, you can see the glue residue on the tank When I took out that connector it was broken off something. All things considered I am afraid they lost the cap at one time, and then bought a brand new shiny one from Porsche without the hole in it. You see from the condition of it that it is not old and not the vw/Porsche lid the early cars should have.

I am currently speaking to a guy from US on ebay which is selling a 1978 tank, so I am hoping to buy the cap of him. However condition is not perfect, but I guess beggars cannot be choosers.

Wow, does it have the red cap with the hose connector in the center?

If so I am really interested.

Tanks for fast reply and foto Unfortunately this is the later style tank with two outputs on the top. I am after the one that is even more NLA The one that only came on the early 78s which has no outputs on the top of the tank, just one from the cap.

Yes, this is the correct tank for the early 928's with the VW/Audi cap.

Hi, turns out the guy I am talking to on ebay is actually a rennlister He is checking up what shipping would be to Norway. It is a complete tank with cap and elbow.

Is the picture of a tank you have at 928intl? If shipping is not to bad I might buy both use the best of them.

Do you think elbow and cap is available from vw/audi or something then?

I did sell mine last night
the cap and elbow should be available for about $15 new
you could also rob the elbow out of a used windshield washer distribution cap under the hood

Ok, yes these things are popular not so strange as they are so rare. At least I seem to have secured the one on ebay now.

But I might want to change the cap on it if I can get new, I guess I have to check with VW/Audi dealer or something then...

Smart idea about the distribution cap. I think I will order a new one of those from your shop as the original solution with the small clear hoses on the back seems a bit fragile.
