Alex,

There may be a shortage of cars in the market because of the hoarders. Just a couple of posts back there is a guy that has 7 pre 1980's, can you imagine?

Thanks for the really good info

I've got one of these intake tubes if anyone needs to buy one (on the left, right one is an AC vent tube I believe). I won't have a need for it with my SC setup, but it's plastic not cardboard (maybe that's not the hard to find one). I have lots of other stuff in great shape too (pair of OB seats in black leather -also a set of black leather GTS seats, unmolested door panels with leather armrests, etc..)

A car that is beat but has all these items would be a feeding frenzy as these are so hard to find.

Thank-you this was exactly what I was looking for.

I know what the early vents look like, what exactly are breather tubes? By battery cover do you mean the lid for the battery box or is there an additional cover?

I can't imagine an original windshield, on anything driven, and can see most original stereos being chucked as well. But the other stuff is certainly worth looking for.

Battery box cover is '78 only part, seals the '78 box underneath the hinged cover. The battery box which is not part of the body in '78, but rather attached to the transaxle/torque tube to dampen vibration. In '79 the battery box was made part of the body and has only the hinged cover.

The early intake tubes were cardboard lined and deteriorate pretty rapidly....I have several and are kept off the car on a "safe" shelf. None of mine are "mint", however. Not home currently so no pic...but I hear through the grapevine a "visually correct" replacement item is soon to be available.

NOS windshields - Lucky bastard Jim has one but never seen another.. There are Chinese replacements available but certainly not correct - German made Sekurit is the correct one AFAIK.

Oh, and original intact exhausts are also rare, usually replaced with ANSA or other replacements even in well kept cars....

"Breather tube" is the odd looking tube that goes from the oil fill back to the airbiox. Has a funky "tube within a tube" as well and is NLA from Porsche: #39 on this chart

the replacement looks like *** and has no tube in the tube - need to cap off the smaller tube.

Good news about the intake tubes

I think Sigla glass is also OE, no?

I'm not sure, I think all all my '78-79 cars are Sekurit but never really paid that much attention to it...will have to look when I get home. My '78 Euro #498 needs one, the windshield has no markings at all and the "weatherstrip" along the bottom is just a bead of sealer...this thread just reminded me to start searching...

Correct the smaller inner tube carries coolant presumably to heat the breather hose for better flow less condensation....

Ah, now I understand the cardboaed intakes. I still have them. Lookd the same as the tubes that are used in a VW aircooled engine for blowing air from the engine airtunnel to the heatexchangers.

Well, unless mine was replaced in its first 750 kms (which is extremely unlikely), then it came with a Sigla.

I have a very good condition breather tube, that I scarfed from 928i a couple of years ago...for #30. I am afraid to install it, at least until I get her road ready.

The old one was very rotted. It is still currently installed, wrapped in high temp tape, and a copper tube strapped to the side for the coolant tube.....wondered if it was even necessary?

That is quite the tease...like a young lady inching up her skirt for a preview.

Come on Alex...we know you took more than that...give up the goods!

You guys are going to kill me, but I don't. Car was outside with a car cover frozen to the car up in frozen Canada...Just was grabbing some spare parts the owner had and the car was in the driveway...white with black pinstripe interior. Pulled up the cover a bit on drivers side and could barely see an early style vent barely through the dark tint so pulled the cover as high as I could to get the VIN. Car had replacement radio, giant wing, rear rolled fenders, front seats re-covered in black vinyl, but overall a pretty nice car with 150k some KM. Guy says it runs great and everything works including the A/C! Really couldn't get much other shots other than a car under a cover. he claims original paint but didn't look that way to me. Would have loved to go over/under the car for some time but had to get going to my sons hockey tournament game - was a 100 mile diversion into CA from where he was playing.

Well, if this is the case...can I get first dibs on #636.

And it was a pleasure knowing you through rennlist.

Thank you, in advance and my condolences to the family. Granted, at your eulogy...l'm going to tell the story about how you out bid me on that battery box cover...and stole away my dreams of ever having one. If there are many 78 928 owners there...this will surely bring the place to utter tears.

Brian.
