Default 9184 Euro Door Lock Help Needed

Well CRAP! It's a 1984 Euro. 3 steps forward and 2 steps back!! I finally got my door panels, card inserts, handle covers and interior lock turn-wheels installed. Great... the interior is FINALLY finished... except now the door locks are acting up... again

Driver side: The driver door stays locked. I can open it from the outside using a key, but the door STAYS locked. I can NOT open the door using either the outside nor the inside door handles (without using the key). Don't want to get locked INSIDE the car.

Passenger side: The passenger side will cycle through a couple of times and lock by itself if I close the door with too much force. Again, I cannot open the door from the inside. It will open with a key from the outside and it will stay unlocked, until I hit a bump or something and it decides to cycle through and lock itself again... dammit

History: The hatch lock does not have ANY wires running to/from the lock tumbler. I believe it was replaced by the PO and the lock body doesn't have any wires, connections, etc, nor anyplace to plug them in... The hatch light and the light switch plunger underneath the hatch receiver are both functioning properly. Both door locks were working (not automatic locking & unlocking from the driver side door) but I could lock/unlock either door with the key. Once unlocked they stayed unlocked, no matter how many times you used the door, started the car, etc, unless you locked the door ON PURPOSE with a key. I was O.K. with this set up.

Question: Will the door locks, turn wheels, and door handles still work manually if I unplug the power cables to the locks? This may solve my passenger side issue, but not sure how it will effect the security system (which is working). Not sure what to think about the driver side lock

I need power door locks like I need a hole in the head... Any suggestions are welcomed and greatly appreciated.

I believe there are 2 fuses located in the fuse panel. These will be loose hanging, if one is bad then problems you are having can happen. Along with this you need to adjust the locks themselves. When looking there may be something obvious. On one of my cars the set screw was lost and the lock would turn a bit in the door (a P.O. used an sae screw and stripped threading) I re-keyed a set off ebay and locks worked properly again. Hope this helps some, the locks can be a pain at times.

the lock assembly only has wires when they are alarm locks ....the wires engage and disengage the ALARM ONLY.... The door lock motors are also switches and when you manually unlock with a key the movement triggers the switch inside the MOTOR. The adjustment of the linkage placement of the motor is critical to the proper operation.

James,

Are you referring to the 2 adjustable reach rods with white plastic ends - one from the lock and one from the handle? If so, those are a PITA... but at least I'll know for sure what has to be done...

Thanks to both of you guys (above) for the assist!
