Hey Paul - Not sure if I can be of much help to you right now, other than to say I've had very similar heat problems to you. I'm hoping new (Volvo) mounts will do the trick. Doubt I'll be driving the car much this summer though as I'm about to start an intake refresh. Happy to swap notes in the meantime. Do you feel up to doing your own mechanicals for instance?
Sounds good to me OMP although I think the mounts are ok and after having a poke around I suspect there isn't any foam in there but I will check out properly in the next few weeks.
Where are you located. Yes I do all my own mechanical have just had my 911 engine out for work.
I thought my mounts were okay too (have PO's record of replacing them a few years prior to them being not okay). I'm normally a big fan of P-parts, but this is a good exception. I also had a previous mechanic use some kind of heat foam in a can - only to be told by a future mechanic that it had melted and that 'foam in a can is a bad idea'. Terrific. Not sure if I'm out of the woods on the heat issues yet. One of the reasons to do things the Rennlist way I guess!
I live in the woods just to the west of Bris.
M'bar has to be one of my favourite places in the world. Not sure when I'll next be in your neck of the woods. Should be soon though - at the very least I'll be doing the tri in March.
If you read my story you'll see I'm only just getting back into things, but in my previous life I found the P-club meetings at the Breaky Creek once a month invaluable (the 928ers catch up at the pub prior to the official meeting). I plan on getting back into that soon. Understandably may be too far for you to travel though.
I think I have solved the problem of the heat coming thro the shifter. Took the shifter plate off to have a look and found a little surprise.
He was down below the shift mechanism and I had noticed a smell a couple of weeks ago that has just gone away, I think he was cooking down there. Not sure how it got in but suspect must had chewed thru the foam as the car sat for a few years before I got it, and created a hole that the heat got through. I vacuumed all the mouse crap up and then stuffed fibreglass house insulation into the space. Took for a test drive and seems to have done the trick
