I bought one of these for a friend to put in his 82 - I think i paid around $800 for it from -

After we got it here we found it does not fit. Did the Bamberg QTS have different din sizes ?
As far as I can tell the correct Bamberg QTS does not have the 2 quick release holes on both sides and should be exactly the same width as the A/C controller.

But it still does not seem to be correct comparing to this photo of an original unit in a weissach:

VanD - Face plate is definitely the problem. I do not recall about the main body - I would have to go back and check. It needs to look exactly like the photo above. It is basically exactly the same width as the HVAC unit. Also note in the photo how the central warning bar curves nicely around both the radio and the HVAC. Looks like the one in the Link has the holes and will there for be too wide.

If you have an email that you'd like to use, and get the schematic, I'd be happy to look at it and see what the issue might be.
Commercial radios like this often have a custom designed Application Specific Integrated Circuit which has been built to spec for the receiver section or the power section. They cannot be replicated easily or cheaply, and if it's the power amp section, it's usually a dual amp in a stereo system. There aren't any discrete components that can't be replaced but the ASIC type components, once they are crapped out, that's the end of that, unless there is a large enough request for the ASIC builder to start up another run of production. The probability of that happening in this narrow market situation is highly unlikely.
One could use a group of discrete components to re-make the functions of the ASIC, but by the time the design is made, and built, and tested, and installed - it's a lot of hours. Which is money. From the mechanical world, think of a metal fitter using an English wheel and tap hammers with a set of dollies to remake a pontoon fender for a classic car from scratch.

That was my impression as well...wonder if anyone knows the correct part number and if it's available somewhere, somehow....

Three Wheelin'
If your looking for an early Blaupunkt deck, Parts Heaven in Hayward CA had a few in their display case.
Not these QTS models, but the kind that were in the S4.

QTS
Roger, do you still have a good quality QTS in stock for a 81 available? I would be interested in it even if not functional as long as it all looks correct and is complete. Let me know.
