Medium rubbing compound and a decent yellow wax might bring a lot of life back into that paint, mine looked like it had been sanded with 2000 grit yesterday... This is after i worked on it for a few hours

+928. Do the crank end-play check first. As in: First. Or, in other words: before you spend money or time on anything else. If the engine has been, or is about to be, eaten by the crank due to thrust bearing failure you want to know that before you start polishing or buying parts.

Nice score! And I'll second the suggestion to try to bring the paint back to life, you've really got nothing to lose and everything to gain. I've seen a number of paint jobs on here come back to life, its amazing. I'm planning on bringing my S4 to a professional to cut and polish the paint one of these days.

Good luck with your new project. -Ed

Curt,

In the midst of an interesting thread a classic one liner if ever there was one.

My wife thinks I am "obsessed" with my 928, I reckon I am a normal "hetero" male. There could an interesting thread lurking around the corner.

Reminds me of Steve Buscemi's character in Conair as he debates "normality" with Nick Cage's character. He debates the sanity of working for 30 plus years in an office and then being thrown on the scrap heap when you cannot go through the night without getting up to take a leak- "you call that normal"!

To the OP I reckon you are a normal person but that is from a skewed perspective! My thinking is that to get a half decent 928 nowadays one way or another you are into at least $25k to join the club. If you get there for less wonderful. In my case I want the paint close to perfect, I want the interior pretty much perfect, I want the engine and gearbox to be more or less oil leak free and working as intended by Porsche. Anything less is "not normal".

Regards

Fred
