Thoughts on a 928s 4 retro mod
Hey All,
I'm new to the 928 forum, I recently leased my first Porsche ( 991 gts) it's probably the best car I have ever driven, the lease is up in a year and a half and I'm looking ahead to my next Porsche. I've always loved the 928 and was looking for one prior to the 911. I couldn't find the right deal and moved on. I now have an opportunity to pick up a (non running, but body is in great shape) 87 928 s4. My question is has anyone been able to transplant a modern high power V8 into a s4 while keeping awd. I am by no means a purist, so the idea of a retro mod 928 appeals to me, I'm looking for modern performance with classic design. Any info you guys can direct me towards is appreciated.
thanks

What's your mission for the 928 S4? Stop light racer? Track? Cruiser?
How much is the non-running 928?
What's stopping the 928 from running now? Some failures are catastrophic and would lead to a new engine. Many failures are not, and can be fixed with a few hundred bucks, and some hours spent by a qualified tech.
Note that for the most part, transplanting a Chebby V8 into a Porsche pretty much wrecks the value of the car. Also, not sure that dropping a hi power lump in a 928 would qualify as a 'retro-mod'. To me, the 'retro-mod' style is something one would see on the streets of Cuba, or maybe - Bangladesh. One man's opinion....

Alrighty then. Sounds like a Chebby lump is in your future. I'm sure you can make it perform better than Porsche. All it takes is money. Starting price sounds attractive.

As a point of reference the Nissan Juke R of which a few have been built puts the basic Juke body on full Nissan GTR mechanicals...so awd 600hp huge brakes launch control etc, etc, ....
It sells for about $600,000 or more than 4 times what the GTR does. All for the sake of being different.
The $5,000 donor S-4 is but a tiny fraction of what such a project would cost ....
