Default "Tis the Season!

Going Christmas shopping today and just generally in the spirit of things. Tree is up, with my favorite ornament in the position of most prominence (Thank you Otto and Robin)

You are most welcome. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

I was going to make one for Stan but I can't find Elfenbein Pearlglanz in the rattle can aisle at Lowe's.

I feel really really bummed out after seeing these. my tree will just not be right without one these. Maybe not worth putting up a tree this yr. Or maybe set it up out in the shop with Fraulein underneath.

You find the color or a close match in a spray can, let me know what it is and PM me your address and I'll try to get one in the mail to Ohio on the 21st.

Otto: You are Da Man!! Just gold would be nice... It's a Christmas Ornament and most of them are gold anyway... What a way to celebrate the day and the new car!

Very cool ornament, but be aware when it comes time to take that down, the suspension may sit high for quite some time before it settles to original ride height.

Buy a hot wheels 928 from ebay. You can get well worn ones for around a dollar and pay around $3.00 for shipping. The hot wheels 928 has three main parts. The body, the plastic "windows" and the chassis. The windows are held in place by the chassis, which is fastened to the body by posts that extend from the inside of the body shell at the front and back. The heads of posts project through holes in the chassis and are then rounded over to rivet the body shell to the chassis.

Turn the car upside down and drill out the posts just enough so you can separate the body from the chassis. Pull the body and chassis apart and prep and paint the body in the desired color. Drill two tiny holes in the "window" assembly so the holes are just inside the roof near the top of the A-pillars. Get some fine wire and thread the ends down through the holes in the "window" assembly. Use a pencil, drill bit or similar and thread it into the loop of wire projecting out of the top of the "window" assembly. Twist the free ends of the wire together and remove the pencil. Tuck the twisted wire up into the window assembly and push the loop forward until it lays on the front of the windshield. Apply thick super glue or JB weld to the body posts so the glue will hold the chassis in place. Put the window assembly back in the body, assemble the chassis to the body and clamp.

Once the glue is dry, pry the loop up off the windshield and tie a small ribbon to it to form a loop for hanging from the tree. Adjust the attitude of the car by bending the wire loop forward or back and then hang on tree.
