Re asking about the title: This is picky of me, but I don't think "asking" is a test of this issue. Do you flip? How many cars are you using as an example? My point is just because someone doesn't ask doesn't mean it isn't an issue or that they didn't do a vin check before looking at your car(s) and satisfied themselves? Have you had someone look at a car, then told them it was salvage and had them go ahead with the purchase? And they didn't lower their offer? Really.

True, no one should assume if they are seriously considering a purchase. It is an issue for some, not for others. Lastly, the value of this car has not been established until someone puts up $$ and drives it away. NY DMV says there is no way to clear it. I was told in some states you can clear a salvage, but that was some time ago, and it was not easy; it might be worth some research.

In a recent magazine, there was a tale of the CSX Cobra which was sunk in a canal decades ago. I think it was an insurance total.
Anyways, restored, it's fine now, and worth how many hundreds of thousands of dollars? And an interesting story.

So this 928 GTS, even with branded title, and no apparent mechanical or cosmetic damages being reported, is 1/2 price. If only I could own every car in the world...
I think we actually do agree - reread my prior comment - certain cars will be extremely valuable regardless of title issues, and a CSX Cobra certainly fits that bill. A Porsche 928 GTS, maybe eventually, but not quite yet, even though there were only 25 or so 5 speeds that came to the US in 1995.

What I am saying, is if I bought the car - and it's already a given, this is being offered at a lower price, I'd drive the heck out of it and not look back.

Once I've bought a car, nobody has even come up to me and said, "nice car, wish I had one like it. And BTW, does it have a clean title?"

I've never owned a car w/ a branded title. I have owned new and old, classic and contemporary. Once car came with a bill of sale and registration, and that's all which was required by the seller in their state. My DMV looked at it funny, but once I showed them that was all Alabama required from the seller, they gave me a title and registration.

Back to the 928GTS. It's a bargain, and probably offered at 1/2 price. Like I said, if I could own them all...

I get where you are coming from, but the Cobra and some other choice classic cars are in another league.

I don't think the 928 (even a GTS) will reach the point were you could roll one up into a ball, set it on fire and rebuild one from scratch using only the original VIN tag and it could be sold as an original car for top dollar.
Read about the "stored away" chassis Carroll Shelby dug out 20 years ago and sold them as "original" cars. Most around the collector car world snickered and rolled their eyes but he sold every one for $500k. He had the VIN numbers to back up his story and people lined up with their checkbooks.

I also agree that if this car checks out, the branded title only means someone is getting an awesome deal and as the entire model line appreciates, will go up in value with the curve.
