I have purchased a pair of FVD chips for my 88 S4, from a private seller. The seller didn't have the instructions available and I need to identify which ECU each chip fits in.
Anyone with FVD chips able to advise or scan their instructions please?

Never heard of them, do you have a Pic you can post?
I've heard most of the performance "chips" out there are just copies of AutoThority and do little if anything on an S4 and a slight improvement on the S3.
PKens chips are a different breed and would be worth the effort.

Swapping chips is very straight forward. You can even use the Porken instructions as a crutch. However, given their description, I;d be very cautious. The 928 did not use a Motronic setup...

I would suggest you send them back and only install the Porken chips

Most 'performance' chips available today are in fact clones of the Autothority chipset issued 15-20 years ago. I went down that path, but quickly retreated because of detonation issues especially at ambient temps over 70ºF. This was with top-tier premiun fuel only, in a low-miles car (~20k) that otherwise ran perfectly. Their 'performance increases' were based on low- and mid-range timing advance, and enrichment when in open-loop operation. In closed-loop, the oxy sensor would override the fat fuel maps. The only measurable benefit was a slightly sharpened exhaust note especially on trailing throttle, when the controller failed to shut off the fuel as the stock chips do.
If you can get your money back, I recommend that you take that option.
The usable options, especially for mostly-stock cars, include Sharktuning to grab the last bits of performance that the factory left as safety margin in the original tuning. The Porken chips are a good option for plug-and-play, with much more sophisticated revisions to the fuel and ignition maps. Ken takes advantage of code space that was otherwise used for different markets, with the diferent fuel and emissions equipment requirements.
My Autothority chips need to be framed and added to my "here was a cheap shortcut that didn't work" wall of shame. Near the fire-injector plugs, the top-sectret oil additives that let me drive with no oil in the sump, stuff like that. Space is getting tight on that wall, but I think I can get the chips up there if I can shift a few of the bigger pieces around some. I need a frame.

JS makes really nice manuals for the ST MKII though which show the EZ/LH disassembly process.

$785 for unknown 'Motronic' FVD chips? (AutoThority were like $600?) Time to double my prices...and write a manual.

Ken, FWIW the Autothority 'manual' was just a single page with a few instructions for where to find the modules. You won't have to work very hard to better theirs. Even as it was written, my memory is that the instruction sheet did more good for the engine than the chips did. Certainly less harm!
