Spoke to the seller a few days ago.
Sounds more like a salesman. Claims to have Donald Trumps for car.
Assured me that car has ALL ORIG paint.

MGW states otherwise. Re-sprayed nose piece/ bumper.

Seller claim he knows paint. Not long ago he owned a paint both. It was the best that money can buy. A unit that is made in Italy.

I am interested but not at his asking price. Which he stands firm on.

As I read this thread I begin to wonder why no one has picked it up over the months that it has been advertised.

As I stated in my post, I've never seen the car in person. I was told that the car was to go to the body shop to have the nose resprayed prior to the sale in early 2013. I know & trust the two sources involved in that info, which included the mechanic/dealer/owner at that time. I believe it was only due to road rash/rock chips, etc & not due to any accident damage. The pics I posted were just prior to the 2013 sale & the one front pic taken indoors seems to show some typical minor scratches in the front bumper cover. Does not appear anything major to me. You could compare that pic to a current one or in person to get an idea. The 10 yr owner prior to the 2013 seller was in the insurance business so I wouldn't think there was any funny business going on with either of those two owners. That owner traded it in to his mechanic/dealer on the purchase of a 911 from him, and the mechanic/dealer immediately resold it.

Perhaps if the current owner is a paint expert & says its not been resprayed, it was decided to not respray it prior to the 2013 sale. I'm sure an independent paint shop could give an opinion on that. Does the current owner have all that paperwork since 44k miles that went with the car in the 2013 sale? That would give you all the history you would need to make a decision regarding the car's maintenance history. I would think their ad would have had some more specific details about the car's maintenance history if they did. If not, I'd think they know very little of the car's history back from the 2013 sale or prior. I can tell you that the mechanic who did all the work on the car for the 10 yrs up to 2013 knows Porsches and he knows 928s.

Got a reponse from seller.

Sellers words.
The documentation is transparent, the offers are ridiculous by people who need their friends and family to help them buy this car, it is one of the rarest production Porsches ever and will always be extremely desirable, try finding another 1995 manual.

My words:
What I learned was, the windshield was replaced.

Seller:
Wrong the right window and regulator where replaced.Front bumper was repainted. Dealers sent their brand new cars to have paint blemishes fixed a 20 year old bumper...

Me / my comment.
Oddly enough when I first spoke to seller he proclaimed himself a Paint Expert .
He confidently stated there is no signs of repaint anywhere. I wonder why he did not mention the respray of the front nose piece. No shame in that. To me that does not drop the value, especially on a salvage title.

I should have ask him if the car is in his name.
He did mention he owned it for less than two years.

He further stated some from out of state will viewing the car.

On one thing he's (current possessor) is right on - find another '95 manual, at this price point.

Get the dang thing up on a hoist, good LED light and go over body from front to back, it will reveal all its secrets, if any. It is what it is.

I am an owner of a low mileage 1995 928 GTS 5-speed and would never part with the car at the price of this car, not even close. Insuring the car could be dicey given the salvage title, financing a dream. I think this car will need a strong cash buyer that just wants to own a super touring car at a steep discount with little hope of appreciation. Certain states may help wash the title, I would recommend a thorough 928 specialist inspection but a sweet price if it checks out.

After thinking about this one, I was sure that this was a bunch of BS since it's up to the insurance company to decide if it is totaled. So, I went and looked up the laws in NY and it turns out that if a car is reported stolen and transferred to the insurance company it gets a salvage title. I guess it is possible this story is true, but I don't understand why the insurance company would be involved if the car was not damaged.

It's aready been stated in this thread a few time.

If the insurance company *paid out the claim" for the car being stolen. (Bought the owner another GTS). Then it's considered a "tota loss" and they attach a savage title to it.

There are similar stupid reasons cars get salvage titles. Which is why it's not really fair to give blanket statements like "salvage title automatically worth half price". So many more variables need to be considered. (How it got the title, CURRENT condition, rarity and age of car, time/miles since branded title, etc)

After being in contact with the seller. I get the impression he has owned it for less than a year. He does want to tell me if the title is in his name. I would venture a guess that it is not.

According to seller, he has another 15 to 18 cars in his collection of various makes and models, but only one 928GTS. I know of several people who do not even transfer title for many year, even up to the point of sale.

It is possible that the GTS has not gone through a NY state inspection.

I would luv the own this GTS. But for me I have to pray & hope it would pass CA smog. There is no word if the emissions is complete. Others questions come to play...

does the GTS actually have a title? Is it a matching numbers car? Are all the body panels orig? Is the interior orig? If I lived in state that is emissions free I would be daring.

As it stands at $45k w/ almost 100k on the odometer ( not sure if that's 100% accurate ).
I do not have oddles of play money to take the leap of faith.

I am in the market for a 928GTS 5spd of any year. I am not too concerned on mileage.
I regret selling my GTS 5spd in 2013.

I guess I will have to be patient.

Not familiar with the NY laws, but here in Colorado, if the car was not damaged, then the insurance company wouldn't get involved. I'm not sure, did the insurance company pay the claim and then find the car later. Then I could see the salvage title. If you could get the insurance company to give you a letter as to why the salvage title, then this could be a great deal. The next step would be to find a state that will allow you to get a clean title with an inspection of some kind. I have a salvage car and the best I can do is get a rebuild salvage and the word salvage has to be stamped into the door jam.
