Looking for pics of Brown (factory) colored 928's
#17
Hey guys,
I was wondering if there's another way to find out the original color code... my car was repainted and was originally yellow I'm assuming from the yellow behind the dash and behind the door panels. Whoever repainted it did a VERY thorough job, it's hard to tell unless you rip out part of the interior. Anyway, there's no longer anything in the door jams.
I discovered on the site linked above ( http://www.landsharkoz.com/colourstart.htm ) that the yellow was a non standard color, that's what makes me curious(it says "Speed Yellow" wasn't used until '94 though, i wonder about other yellows?). Maybe it was more common on Euro models? It would be interesting to see just what was the original color of my car.
I said the car was repainted somewhere in it's history... well it wasn't the PO, but he did say this new color is "Guards Red" which I took his word for all along... then I bought some Porsche Guards Red touch-up paint from the dealer and it didn't match! It's a hair too dark, and from looking at that website above, I think it might be the Indischrot or Indian Red(It almost looks orange sometimes in bright sunlight).
Anyways, just thought I might throw that out there while we're talking color codes (even though we're talking browns )
TIA for any info.
BTW your brown cars really look good.. I've never seen brown look so good on a car

Perhaps I will, but everytime I end up visting his place I drop at least $100.00.
Check out the place Robby Gordon has a few doors up if you are into modified pick-ups. Some real cool trucks and SUV'S. His mom is my neighbor.

Have no fear the computers and credit card machine will be turned off on Saturday Oct 18 th for Sharktoberfest . Mark decided he would rather enjoy the day with a bunch of fellow 928 owners than get involved processing orders . We do that all week long . Dan Bise , SOCAL ; John Veninger PCA are putting a lot of effort into making it happen . Preliminary registrations are strong it should be a nice social/technical 928 event .

I got one for $35 a few years back. Not a complete as I'd like as they don't tell you what the option codes really mean. I does give the color.

Drifting
That's too bad, I think that's one of the coolest metallic colors for any car.
I found some picks i took of the very first 928 i test drove back in 2000. This is probably the "Brown, Very Brown" color Jim Baily talks about. The Landshark OZ site says this is Mocha Brown. You cant tell this color apart from that of a UPS truck.

Money Pit
Here is a picture of the Brown Money Pit sitting high above the harbor in Dana Point....
Sorry Randy, no drop top, but since it has been slightly "enhanced" it holds its own against a lot of newer rods.
The CA licence is : 79 928

More Gold Than Brown
I wasn't too pleased to find out my car color is called Tobacco (Tabac Metallic). Not a big fan of smoke.
Still, I get a lot of complements. Helps that the car has been garaged since bought and still only has 47,000 miles. Only one this color I have seen on the Rock.

I bought my car from a true butteater. It was originally black, and after the rear clip was scuffed in traffic, and he was told by the body shop that they probably couldn't match plain black paint......he decided to do a cheap respray in a color that he said was an original Porsche color. He couldn't remember the name of the color. I've been wondering ever since-
Well, when you open the doors, the black paint stares at you. And the same occurs whenever I check the oil-
Dammit! I hope someone uses a belt sander on his shins- then rubs rock salt and Tobasco sauce into the wounds!
