Mark, change the water pump. Get a Geba from Mark or Roger. One less excuse for WSIR in 2016.

there are no excuses on my side Rob.... I need a pump thats not inquestion, the point was that, its tough to change the belt or know when its time on a race car.
now i have an excuse..

so, what is the Geba and why is it different than the standard aftermarket that ive always used. I get about 4-5 seasons ... In fact, i think i put the Holbert replacement water pump on the stoker engine, so it had more than 8 seasons on it.

What is the standard aftermarket you've always used? Laso? The Geba differs from the Laso by still being available. It's either that or a factory pump, or some Commie Chinese knockoff, but if you put a $65 water pump on the stroker, millions of baby seals will die.

Doesn't Ed Standke accept these cheap pumps as a modification candidate for his pump with the improved bearing setup which decouples the impeller from the pulley in the event of failure?

I sent Ed, the Porsche OEM pump after I pulled it for replacement with his Guardian pump. I'm guessing that I've got around 9K miles on the Guardian. I could walk out to the garage to furnish the exact mileage, but I'm to lazy.

FWIW, The Guardian is the way to go, if you have a interference engine!

I think the pump ive been using lll these years are Laso's. I think i tried the factory pump, but the plastic impeller came of the shaft too.

dont worry, im on the same page with you on the knockoffs. no way ill use something cheap on the pump or anything that can cause the engine to get hurt.

now, if "Geba" are available and Laso's are not, then the decision is simple. but, what is the cost of the pumps now?

Yes

I can't tell you what pieces are used today, however Mark Anderson (928 International) asked me to dissect one, when they first appeared on the market, to see if this was a product he could sell.

The bearing cartridge was a double ball bearing style cartridge (one ball bearing in the rear for thrust and one ball bearing on the pulley end for belt load), instead of a ball bearing/roller bearing cartridge (one ball bearing for thrust in the rear and a roller bearing for belt load).

The ball bearing application for belt load made this water pump completely unsuitable for use on the 928 engine, where belt loading on the bearing is very high and requires a very high quality roller bearing to survive for any length of time.

Perhaps they realized this huge inadequacy and changed the bearing cartridge after seeing failures.....I have not dissected one recently.....we were done with this water pump as an alternative and moved on.

BTW: For those of you interested, I have never dissected a Geba pump. The metal impeller is such a huge step backwards for 928 engines, that I can not rationalize using it.

GREAT NEWS!
There's an even cheaper 928 water pump at http://tinyurl.com/oswdwow
Higher quarity, too. Just to eliminate risk, I might install two of them.
