Default wideband VS narrowband 02

I want to put an AFR gauge in my new flush center console. I was going to put the old school vdo clock in it, but with the desigh of the flush console kit it it will not fit as it hits the warning/central locking unit.

The wideband are 2-3 times the cost of a narrowband.

is it worth it? what are the differences?

Is it worth what? Just to watch?

I dunno...maybe? Are you boosted and just wanna know?

NB wont show you anything useful at all, just a constant sweep from - to + to - over and over without any resolution, you would -have- to have WB to see useful data there.

ahh...
just installed porken chips .

i am curious to see the afr's.

i hope to boost in the future, so i'll go ahead and get the wideband..

issue i have run into is i have a brand new wideband as i thought i was going to need it for porkens chips but they required oem.

so i have been trying to go cheap and get just the gauge...since i have a brand new in the box wideband....

All i see are kits with o2..

i'll just suck it up and buy the kit.

Steven,

Wideband o2 needs a controller as well as the sensor. Sometimes the controller is built into the gauge (e.g. Innovate MTX/L), sometimes it is a separate module (e.g. Innovate LC-2), useful for Sharktuning where a gauge is not necessarily needed-- Sharktuner displays the AFR.

Buy the kit, and you'll have a spare wbo2 sensor.

I use the AEM one in my boosted Spyder. Black face with white letters and red needle so it goes with the other gauges in the car.

Narrow band works just fine, one wire, sends to any milivoltmeter. I set up the carb on my auto-engine airplane with that setup. it has to heat up a little before the signal begins.

A wide band will help you know how the engine is running, like knowing the Temp II is working correctly and getting to the ECU, as the AFR will change from 13.5 to 14.7 at idle as the engine warms up. Also faulty spark/injection issues will change AFR.

The AEM is a nice compact unit, however I like the Innovate for tuning.

Try these guys if your looking for mix and max options, I recently bought a sending unit for a NOS gauge from them, worked great.

Like others have said, narrow band and wide band tell you different things. A narrow band (stock) sensor will only tell you lean or rich of stoich (14.7:1). It cannot tell you anything beyond if you are above or below that number. It cannot even tell you have much above or below. A wideband will tell you what your actual air/fuel ratio is at any given time. They will generally read 8:1 - 17:1. Outside of that window you start getting combustion instability and the signal it sends can't be trusted.
