Representing Us Vs new BMW 335i
On the way home from a settlement this am Astrid and I are minding our bizness in the RS and this typical BMW guy in a late model [the new one]
335i 4 door, tries to suck our headlights up and out.
He wasn't able to, he tried from about 35 to 80 mph a couple times to blow our doors off. It was pretty fast but we had the slight edge on him. [Astrid was screaming at me the whole time to slow down]
We were right on his bumper and able to overtake him. I took the motor up to about 5800-5900 rpm, never over this.
He gave up on this after about 3 tries.
I think they make 300 BHP from their I6 but not sure, They definitely have much more efficient transmissions. I guess the BWW weight penalty was the decider here.

Interesting timing.
I spent the past two weeks terrorizing SoCal in my sister-in-laws 2010 335 and came to the conclusion it would take a well modified 928 to keep up with it, especially in the twisites.
Your car qualifies
Efficient transmission is an understatement. It was the first automatic I've driven in a "normal" car that would have me consider giving up a manual.
Her car has the sport package too which helps the handling quite a bit. Speed bumps were a royal pain though.

300hp is 300hp until you maximize it better with the transmission. (see average HP over any gear between shifts) .. the nice thing about the 928 is the broad HP curve, an advantage over the BMW I6. in the end, they look to be close on paper and on the track, or light to light,i imagine they would be near the same. the BMW auto shifts faster, but the peaky HP curve negates any gain to a slower shifting manual like the 928 with a broad HP curve.

This was all straight line stuff on RT 926 in Edgmont PA headed East.
He always led the charge [ I'd see him goose it, I'd downshift and play catch up] But we always caught up and overtook him slowly.
He was definitely surprised, it wiped that smug yuppie look off his face.

Hi Matt, glad you get to represent the 928 over those yuppy bimmers! My '08 335xi auto is likely faster than my '89 s4 auto purely due to better transmission I feel. However, my wife's '13 Audi a7's 8 spd would blow the doors off all my other cars due to the transmission also. Power to weight ratio is likely the same between all my cars.
I take the same route through edgemont to work in Bryn Mawr from Chadds ford, but I promise it wasn't me! I love those back roads in that part of town.

Yeah but watch out for the new 328is... 2.0T 240HP. 0-60 5.7s. It is embarrassing for 928 S4s off the line...we get them after 100 though when they loose steam and the things that fatten them up drag them down.

Its really quite odd being able to hold your own against a decent sporty car that's 20 - 30 years newer. As has been observed many times, the 928 is really made for high speed cruising, not traffic light grand prixs.

? don't get the Sheesh, maybe an avatar explanation would help.
After looking at the spec, I can't believe i could hang with and best him.
He thought I'd be way in his rear view i guess.
Here are 0-60 times: Anyone know how heavy these cars are? It was big.

That's definitely not me with a "friend" or lover riding then (wife knows I'm on the forum 24/7).
My car is about 3700-3800 with AWD. approx 12-13 lbs per hp. If your modified 928 rs makes 220 hp, then it would have similar lb/hp.
Btw, I'll pick your brains about removing the ac system of my '78 when I'm ready to put the euro s engine in!
Thanks

I think the original Sheesh was directed at the yuppies, not my poking fun at yuppies. Least i hope so.
