The owner has modified their car in the spirit of the RS cars. I like it, and it's somewhat easier to call it an RS than constantly list all the modifications.

The weight savings have certainly helped acceleration. I calculated about 5.5s 0-60mph for this car - not bad for '83.

Give me a break.

Like there are no variables at a drag strip and every single 1/4 mile track in the world is 100% identical in every single way?

He raced that car in the story on that day and won.....period......or did you miss that part of the story?
Not to mention this was a "roll on" race which is just slightly different than a dead stop pull at a strip.

The BMW could have been carrying 200lbs of groceries in the trunk, who cares??? It's a fun story and an entertaining discussion.

In the words of Princess Elsa, "Let It Go!!" (haha....get that song out of your head now...)

Who cares??? He can call his car "Susan the Destroyer" if he wants to. What business is it of yours to question?

This thread...
Is useless...
without a video....

Just to get that out of the way.

More important than a dyno or dragstrip is the race track for a Carrera RS.
Matt did you make it to the track this year? Thats the video I want to see. 275 HP and 2650lbs it will kick some serious....

As far as calling it a Carrera RS, Matt can call it whatever he wants, but it will never be a RS because the key is on the wrong side.

Great story thanks Fixer. I miss the days of running wild on the roads of the SE PA countryside.

I'm not the speed police, but I was assuming that this occurred on a road without pedestrian access and no traffic.

Actually I have it on good authority this happened in a school zone on pizza truck day while a mission of nuns were visiting.

Wouldn't they have stopped for pizza then?! Perhaps you can't do that if you care about weight

Unless the track is prepped for an NHRA even, it will be fairly close to all the other tracks at the same elevation and weather conditions. This car is not strong enough to make the minor track surface differences matter anyways. But if he is too McFly to go to the track and prove what Susan the Destroyer can do then, so be it.

Come on man! we were starting to get along finally. I know it wasn't built by Porsche.
I always call it the RS not an RS. Just rolls off the tongue i guess.

Back to the BMW..
From a stand still he'd get me due to how quick he can get out of 1st. My second gear synchro is a touch slow. If i shift too quick it might crunch so i don't.
With a later quicker shifting box I'd welcome the opportunity though.

It was rolling street racing, he would goose it at about 30 mph to show off. The second time he did it I chased and bested him but it wasn't easy. We did this a second time and I'd slowly catch him again after he goosed it, accelerating through 2nd gear and up into 4th. It was about 11am and there was a lot of room.
I didn't redline though [5800]. The BMW is a fast car for how big it is and only having a i6.

As I said, he wouldn't look over at me at the lights b/c he was annoyed by it all.

Nuff said.

You need to give your car a name Imre, I say Mad Max would be perfect. I am going to call mine Professor Style because the original owner was the famous hair stylist Maurice Fiorio.
