Default Oil Leak

Along with the new coolant leak I found, I found a new oil leak that is leaving a small puddle on the garage floor. It is dripping off the oil pan and alternator. I’m certain where this leak is located. It seems to be above the oil pan. Where should I be looking?

Clean the hell out of what you can clean...you can get to a lot of areas while underneath on a creeper. Would give you a better idea of where the leak might be coming from.

My 84 was dripping from the same exact spot when I bought it. Turned out being the powersteering hose. The one the runs from the bottom of the reservoir to the pump. No matter how much I tighten the clamp, it still leaked. Need to replace the hose in the end.

Is it engine oil or power steering oil?

Brownish or red?

Like mentioned, it can come from different places.

It's oil. The power steering hose and clamp are two months or so old (and still leaking ). The mix of PS fluid may be part of the reason its so hard to isolate though.
I cleaned the area when I changed the PS hose. It got soaked pretty quick. The PS leak is getting on the Alternator and PS pump belts, and being thrown around. Ya'll are right I need to get the area clean first. I need some opinions on the PS leak; I will start a new thread.

Is your power steering pump sweating. Probably time for a rebuild if there is much oil and grime on it.

My powersteering fluid was a brownish color, more than reddish. I'm not sure what the PO had added to make it that color, but it kept me thinking it was an engine oil leak. However, after cleaning everything...it became apparent that the reservoir hose was the culprit.

I can't imagine how long mine was leaking, since the entire engine was covered with the remnants of dirty oil.

Good luck, finding your leak.
