Default NorCal Sfest route!!!

The grapevine is closed until probably 6a tomorrow the cup just told us. We've been parked on it for 3hrs before they turned us around. Monster mudslide at Lebec.

Backtracking thru tehachapi. Consider 101 route over 5. Truck traffic will be backed up for hours after opening in 12-15hrs says The Man.

Great drive west to pick up 33, and the run down through Ojai. Then either the 101 coast road around through Ventura and Thousand Oaks, or head east on 126 to get the 5 again near Magic Mountain.

Saw the reports, stopped in Kettleman for the night. Will regroup in the AM, I don't see any great options.

If you're not close to Gorman, I think you guys could cut over to 101 and use that instead...

152, 46, 41, or I think 58 might even bring you over to the coast. Then you can use 101 to 405, or 101 to somewhere on the north side of LA and cutover to 5 again...

Probably all stuff that Google has already suggested...

And we've been in gravel/mud/rock up to 4-5" deep so far in places..the cars are a mess.

I did hit tire truck retread rubber that was thrown on the road ahead of me..and couldn't miss it..head on.

Cant wait to see what didn't survive under the car. I started the trip with an OK spoiler and perfect trays...

Going for plan "C", heading to 101 on the coast. Adds a couple of hours but hopefully avoids the mess.

SR 33 south to Ojai is closed (slides), the plan is 41 from Kettleman to Atascadero.

Jim,

41 to 46 to paso Robles to 101 is faster than 41 to Atascadero...

In case you want to make up some time...

Missed the turnoff, but 41 was moving pretty good. Lots of trucks though, and not particularly cheerful in their driving habits-- especially on the 101.

Cheers,

I left at 6:15 from the East Bay, got to Kettleman City by 11:30 when I found that the car was leaking coolant. Talked to Bill then headed south. Signs on 5 South said the Grapevine was closed and detour to 101. So Waze (the app) took me down 5 to 43 South, then 119 West, and 33 South to 166. All was good until I got to Maricopa and hit all the traffic coming in from 5 on 166. Gridlock, not good for a car with a coolant leak. After 45 minutes of stop and go a little then stop traffic, I had to call it quits and headed home.
