switches
Is it normal for the window, and sun roof switches to work with the key in the off position? I never noticed that my windows, and sun roof continue to work with the key removed till today.

I had my car on the lift, and forgot to open the hood. So I was laying across the console and laid on the switches, with the passenger door open, and they still worked.
I know, it's a 928, and they're weird.

Ever notice that 'wierd' is an anagram for 'wired'? particularly appropriate in the 928 context...
Worth checking out why the windows are in fact working with the key off after the door has been opened. Think 'relay-relay-relay'.

I had same thing before I refurbished all my interior lights. Not sure how they are related but when I got all the lights working properly the issue of the windows working while key out went away.

In ROW config - windows work with key out and a door open, or with ignition on - or after ignition was on until you open a door.
USA cars are different - only with ignition on - or after ignition was on until you open a door.
For USA cars - earlier years you need a different window relay to get ROW mode but from '90 you can get this functionality simply be changing a jumper under the drivers seat.
Perhaps on this car the relay contacts are stuck on - or an ROW relay was fitted. Close the doors - if it still works with key out the relay is faulty (or the door pin switches don't work) . If it doesn't work with the door closed - you probably have an ROW relay fitted.

Alan, my pin switches don't work. Got two new ones, never put them in. The PO, changed the interior lights to LED's. I think he crossed some of the wires, so I just removed the blubs from the red door markers, and put this whole mess on the back burner.
As always, you always know what's going on with these cars. Thanks!

Polecat, when I got my shark, my windows worked after the ignition was shut off because someone (I assume the second owner) inadvertantly installed the window motor relay in the wrong (adjacent) position and the adjacent relay in the window motor relay socket (ie, relay slot IX vs. XI, IIRC). This inadvertant swap and a sticking-up passenger window switch combined to drain my battery dead in a day or two, repeatedly. I only discovered the problem while double-checking each relay's part number against the relay diagram and parts katalog. The tiny little carets next to the Roman numerals are hard to read, so a simple mistake for anyone to make.
When this happened, I did not notice if this was the case with the sunroof too.

Actually I'd venture that most cars of this period had similar wiring for interior lights. That the interior lights (or pin switches) are used to control the window power supply is also fairly common - it's certainly not Porsche specific.
Many modern cars also keep the accessories (all of them audio included) active until a door is opened, similar concept.
I actually like the ROW mode best... need to wind down or up a window while cleaning or working on the car - just open a door and reach in... nice
