Default TT bearing or Clutch noise

I had the clutch out a few months ago and replaced the pilot bearing and rebuilt the Throw Out bearing.

I have been accumulating the parts needed to do a TT rebuild as I have allot of drive train whining/ whirring when driving.

This morning it was cool so I did not have the AC on, no blower or radio. When I pulled up to the light to leave my neighborhood I noticed that when releasing the clutch in neutral at the light I got a rotational noise like sand paper against metal. As soon as I depress the clutch pedal the noise goes away.

More indication that I need to do the TT rebuild or still issues with clutch bearings?

If its a 79 and the TT has never been rebuilt, than yes it does.

Also from your description and given you just did the clutch points to the TT bearings.
