Outside of cleaning the tangs and running some fine sandpaper across the relay contacts themselves, it's hard fix them cost-effectively compared to just making a new relay.

Reminds me of spending an hour trouble-shooting a cheap Chinese relay for a scooter. It cost $7. Then I got the "good" brand for $8 and still had to move the pins in the connector.

Good point. Does anyone have a parts list for the relay that someone could rebuild the relay from?

I have replaced the transistors and capacitors on one of mine that failed by staying on and going to a very high temperature while draining my battery. I have not finished testing it yet.

Here are the parts I used that were ordered from Mouser electronics.

Mouser #: 512-BC32725BU
Mfr. #: BC32725BU
Desc.: Bipolar Transistors - BJTPNP -45V -800mA HFE/400

Mouser #: 81-PVA2A474A01R00
Mfr. #: PVA2A474A01R00
Desc.: Trimmer Resistors - SMD470Kohms Open 2mm Single turn

Mouser #: 512-BC32725TA
Mfr. #: BC32725TA
Desc.: Bipolar Transistors - BJTPNP -45V -800mA HFE/400

Mouser #: 512-BC557BTA
Mfr. #: BC557BTA
Desc.: Bipolar Transistors - BJTTO-92 PNP GP AMP

Mouser #: 80-ESK105M100AC3FA
Mfr. #: ESK105M100AC3FA
Desc.: Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors - Leaded100volts 1uF 20%

Mouser #: 667-EEU-FM1E681
Mfr. #: EEU-FM1E681
Desc.: Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors - Leaded680uF 25V ELECT FM RADIAL

I did not replace the trimmer pot as it tested out ok. Another list member found he had to replace a diode to get his to work after replacing the transistors and the caps.

The best solution may be what many do - never turn the rear defrost on.

Good luck.

I had to check. A new 928.615.115.00 is $200?! OK... I'm in for replacing a few parts and seeing if it'll work.

The relay pictured in the other thread doesn't have coating on it, the parts are big and they're all through-hole. Looks like a good chance to get it working.

Excellent! Thanks! For the immediate, I've ordered a "working used" for $40. My original will go into Frankensteins lab for revivication with the aforementioned donor parts. Oh, in the near-New England states, defogger is a drivers friend.

There are other relays that are practically NLA, including the auto trans kick-down. Does anyone have the parts list for this one?

I just remembered that the trimmer pots in the above list were not correct, they turned out to be surface mounted, microscopic and unusable. Please don't order them.
