Somebody did this, using an aftermarket ECU solution. IIRC, they might have used units from a Cayenne?

Default Ign coil on plug

Colin used cayenne coils with his VEMS computer.... But he had issues with them. I use LS truck coils for CNP coil bear plug on my 16v .

The cayenne coils are a pita to use.
2.0L turbo VW could work and fit ok, much easier to trigger them.

Apart from the perception that COP's seemingly fail more frequently, is there anything to suggest that the stock 928 external coil based system is less than adequate other than the leads fail every 10 years or so?

Default COP units

When we redid the ignition on my 91 GT we used Porsche Turbo units with the Autronic ECU we installed.

Is that the car build by Bob Payton and Ed Kowbel?

The picture with all the red was from the completed rebuild using the COP and the original intake. Following the break in we installed the twin screw and the intercooler. Here's a pic of it with the twin screw.
