Hey Roger thank you I got my overnighted parts Now if I can get this back together, Ill be able to get to my destination on schedule.

This is the thinner of the O rings

One fits the air guide and the other goes on the flange of the MAF that pushes into the air guide. Glad you got the parts.

Look at the first picture you posted. The MAF pushes into the air guide were the thicker O ring is positioned. As you push the MAF into the air guide it comes to a stop against the flange face of the MAF. The thin O ring pushes onto the end of the MAF and sits at the flange face and seals the MAF on the outside diameter.

I don't think I have the thinner ring on my MAF, I replaced the thicker one already. Can you add that to my shopping list Roger?

OK, Old thread.

I am accelerating a little rough and as the MAF has never been serviced its next on the list.

I went back and checked my work to be sure though and even replaced the O- rings to be on the safe side. (old ones did not seem bad though).

by the reinstall I could not get the unit in so that the top thinner O-Ring seats.

No amount of wiggling, twisting or silicone lube seems to get it 100% seated. there is always a gap on one side or another.

Sorry about the photo, best I could do. There is NO air gap in there like in the photo, but it will not seat so the Oring fits.

is this normal?

It may be that the seal to the larger ring is fine but I cant see Porsche puttin in an oring that does not seat.

Regards,

DDay

There are two O rings on the base of the MAF.
#24 - 999 701 183 50
#25 - 999 701 699 40
Check they are the correct part numbers.

Well I pulled the new large O-ring and comparied it to the new one. no visable difference.

HOWEVER when putting the old one back the MAF fit snug.

Looks like the OEM part is just a wee bit off....Offends my national pride in German Craftmansship......We "Pfuked Ab" (just to avoid the censors).
