Default Winnipeg to PEI with the 89

I've recently saved an 89 details herehttps://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-infected.html

After the initial shakedown, going for the real trip, as far as I can drive east, will do the same thing west in the future.

I'm taking the US route down, south of the lakes through NY state Maine etc.

Trip starts Friday, and will be shy of 2 weeks. Just wondering if there are any 928 get togethers in the north eastern states during the next couple of weeks.

If I can make it work I may drop by.

Have a good trip.
Be sure you have a couple dollars to cross the Bridge back from PEI. I was there for son's summer hockey and was surprised it was 48 dollars - and this was a few years back.

Nice! The best thing about driving the 928 out to PEI from Winnipeg is that once you get there, you have to drive back!

If going through Hamilton, there are a few of us 928ers in the area. I personally have two 89s :-)

Lance,

Acadia Region PCA is holding an annual show and shine on Sunday Aug 16 at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron in Halifax. There will be 2-3 sharks there for sure (83, my 85 and an 86.5) - be great to add an S4 into the mix if the timing works for you.

If you need anything while "down east" feel free to PM me.

Great thread, subscribed.
That's a substantial transit, and I hope you can take some pics and have a travelogue thread.

Someday need to get back to a little shack on a lake in Forties settlement!

Don't fear the Donaire.

Any fall events/gatherings?

If you take the long route to PEI, through Florida, I'll bbq up some nice ribs and fill the cooler with beer.

Hey, it would make your journey even more epic.

Greg,

Although the 16th is latter than planned it may be doable, please send me the info, how much notice do you need?

Bud,
If I add a couple of days I'll look at Cabot trail.

Cameron,
Thanks for the offer, just added a furthest south without going through Mexico, to the list which would be the keys. Possibly Spring 2016.

Livio,
Did Southern Ontario last year, in a volvo, so not this time, beside 3 1989s in that close a proximity may affect earths orbit.

I'll do my best at video logging and keep all informed on progress.

Thanks,

Lance

Lance,

Well to get to the Florida Keys, you have to drive right through my back yard. So we'll have to plan a Shark get together in honor of your trip!

Lance,

The details on the PCA Show and Shine are:

Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron
376 Purcells Cove Rd
Halifax NS
Phone (for the squadron) 902-477-5653

No notice needed, if you decide to come just show up

Looking forward to at least reading about your trip ... doing a long road trip in the 928 is on my list of things to do!

Had a last minute issue with the wipers, Roger to the rescue with an over night relay.

The goal was to do 500-600 miles per day.

The start.

Driveway ready to go

Choose wisely, the luggage area is not that large

109,915 km start

The 928 looks svelte next to a modern corvette

El Patio in Eau Claire Wisconsin

First day Winnipeg to Eau Claire, a couple of false starts meant we got off late.

Had a kid almost fall out of a truck trying to lean out the window to get a picture of the car, thumbs up from all sides.

As with the last trip fuel mileage goes up significantly after about an hour on the road, from 15.5 l/100 (15 mpg) to less than 13 l/100 (18 gpm) the average at the end of the tank was 12.8 l/100. Average speed on the trip computer was roughly 69 mph, so I was making time.

Seats are not as comfortable as the Volvos that I have but very comfortable. Except one spot on the seat that had an issue with one spot on my right hip after about 6 hours.

I have to say the 928 is the best vehicle that I have ever been in over railway tracks just amazing.

The cruise is neat it really hunkers don in the hills to maintain speed and it is exciting in resume.

Went to El Patio in Eau Claire, good Mexican with a good $12 picture of Margareta, unfortunately with old comes responsible so we left half.

Parked behind a corvette, makes the 928 seem small. However the steering wheel in the 928 is further from the front bumper than the steering wheel is from the front bumper on an Excursion, I measured.

Default Day 2

Eau Claie to Toledo

We made the obligatory stop at an outlet mall, So we've started putting things in the back seat.

Set the alarm off opening the hood ater locking the door, a good way to start the morning. Car didn't burn any oil and everything looked great.

Eau Claire

On occasion I'm getting cold condensate spilled on my sandled driving foot, I've cleaned the condensate drain and there is a puddle when the car is stopped, usually occurs around corners, more investigation is needed.

Also harder starting like it is vapor locked, I'll hve to cycle the key tomorrow to confirm.

Once again fuel economy gets better with more run time, first hour close to 15 mpg 2 hours latter 18.

School Grounds Cafe

Stopped at the School Ground Cafe for a break, owner and his son Jeff and Dave I believe came over, said they loved the car, Jeff does interiors in classic cars as a side. Both were big fans of the design. It's in Cotage Grove Wisconsin just off of the free way, if you get a chance stop by.

Not may Porsches on the road, but did get to follow a couple of Panaramas through the Madison to Chicago corridor.

One flaw was that the external connection wasn't working on the stereo, I relocated the cable and didn't test it so it's all on me. Through much of the drive today radio was tough, very short duration stations and a lot of stations that weren't for me. I hope to get a chance to open it up tomorrow evening.

Off to Troy NY tomorrow.

Love this thread. Bringing back great memories of my long 928 trip with my son.

Looks like that car has a partial or full leather interior, please tell. And you found it with HRE wheels, or did you put them on? Also, that mileage. That's only about 65k miles on her. Just broken in. Awesome. Keep the pics coming!
