I always tell myself the rub strips don't affect the look much but then I see a gorgeous car like yours without rub strips and I remember that I am totally wrong. Looks so clean really highlights the shape of the car.
Funny that you said it. I actually prefer the body side moldings on the 928. When the early 928 came out, I thought it was a cool car but it looked a little bloated. But when the 928S came out, the body side moldings and the spoilers were standard on all 928S. I thought they made the car sleeker and sportier. So I always want my 928 to have the moldings. In fact, I was a little disappointed when I found ths 86.5 without the moldings. I figured that beggers cannot be choosers and I would learn to like it this way and I did.

That's kinda funny actually. Isn't that the way it always is? So many 928s have the side moldings I never give it a second thought when I'm looking to buy but to me it just looks so sleek without them. Ideally, I'd like my 928 with no side moldings, no rear AC and no sunroof but that seems to be the exception more than the rule.
Very nice and congratulations -she is a beauty - is the paint and interior original? -stunning! You contacted me last year about my '85 Garnet Red 5 spd Euro and mine does have the rub strips, but I actually think it would look better without. I am painting my other Grand Prix White 928 and have omitted them.
I updated my wheels recently to 18" Panamera and wanted to get your opinion. I like your idea about Cup 1's but they are hard to find!

Lou,
Your car looks great. It took me a year to find my Cup wheels but they are 7s and 9s. They will work fine. Your Panamera wheels look good but I prefer the Cup's smooth spokes. On my S4, I have Carrera III wheels.

New steering wheel. Tried driving with a few steering wheels including the 930S sport steering wheel which is black. Roger could not find me a burgundy one as it is discontinued. I did not like the black steering wheel so here it is.
It looks good with the short shifter.

Wow, Steve, that looks fantastic!
The reason you needed the color matched steering wheel is because of the full burgundy interior.
Most 928's have the black highlights (dash, pod, console, doors, etc.) so a black wheel looks fine.
But with your interior, the black steering wheel just looked too out of place, IMO.
That new burgundy (maroon?) steering wheel REALLY ties it all together again.
VERY nice..!
The new color-matched steering wheel looks great! The Momo Club 4 was not as nice with your all Burgundy interior but would have been improved if the shiny aluminum center ring was blacked out, as I did, with semi-gloss black (the ring pops out for painting). Of course, it's best with an all black interior like mine. Someone else would be very happy with your Momo Club 4, a nice wheel long ago discontinued by Momo.
Beautiful car. Love this forum & the great set of people who are willing to extend a helping hand with information & what they've gone through with these machines.
Kudos to everyone.
Very nice S3 Steve! I searched high and low when I was in the market for a 5sp like that one, and found one back east that had sport seats too but went another way. Still I love Garnet Red and will one day soon be getting my SuperShark back on the road.
