Dead tach. After the dash pod what other areas to check
Ive been trying to cure an intermittent tach issue. I pulled the pod out, cleaned the contacts and reinstalled it and ended up with pulsing warning lights and tach that was about 50% off. Pulled it again, more cleaning, and took extra care with the harness and got my lights back bit no tach at all now. I think ive done all i can with the pod.

tach
I used Dwaynes eraser/contact cleaner trick on the contacts and was hoping since i almost had a working tach that would do the trick. So apparently im not done with the pod. Thanks for info.

What year car? On early cars the tach signal goes through the CE panel. Generally the tach signal goes to the fuel pump relay, on the very early cars it also goes to the AC compressor relay. Check/clean all of the related connections.
In the unlikely event that a failing FP or AC relay is messing with your tach signal you can(for testing purposes only), replace the FP relay with a simple relay. If the problem is still there pull the AC relay(if you have the early style, 78/79 only IIRC). If the problem goes away at either step replace the relay. DO NOT drive around with an improper FP relay, the correct part will shut off the fuel flow when the engine stops, for example in case of an accident.
