I have an 87, went with the Boge all the around. Tires matter as well. I put the Boge on with my old Bridgestone tires and the ride was good. Changed over to the Michelin Pilot Sports recently and the difference was night and day. ( 18" 275 35's rear 235 40's rear) unless you plan on driving really hard all the time, the Boge handle just about everything you throw at them. Original equipment as well, and tires play a significant part also.

I bought bilstein when I changed mine. I had the red boge (sport suspension option 474).

Firm but OK for our road conditions.

With the weaker Canadian dollar versus the US dollar, it may be cheaper to buy Bilstein in Canada...

Default shocks

My 86 has the Boge sports and it could use some new dampers. How much of the stock adjustment hardware would i be able to reuse if i went Konis?

When i got the car i found Black boge..,they were pretty worn. I was suggested to get Red boge all round. I don't know difference between Red and Black boges(someone can provide part numbers for you, maybe just the colour was changed during production) , cause former ones were not good. I can tell you that ride on new shocks is comfortable, long distance tris are a pleasure, not harsh. I would like them a bit harder, just a bit.

I am running the Eibach custom springs with Boge's based on informed recommendation. I enjoy the cushy ride of the Boge's and have the low look I like with the Eibachs..a nice combination and much thanks to the trusted partners in Texas

Original Black boges: oil/hydraulic
Original Grey Boges: gas-assisted
Original Red Boges: Sport variant, $$$$!!!

Replacement Boges also Sachs, black.

Sure wish there were still the externally adjustable Koni reds...or FSD line.
I expect the Konis can be modified for external adjustment- for a princely sum.

I pulled my (original) reds off last year, now I'm running black Boges and stock springs. I'm getting used to it now but initially it felt way too soft, almost Cadillac soft.

Boge reds are currently about $1400 a set.

Koni does still convert the internally adjustable to externally adjustable for about $300 a shock (plus the original cost of the shock).

I keep seeing what appear to me to be "strange descriptions" of the Eibach springs. As I stated in an earlier post in this thread to my knowledge they are 25% stiffer than stock springs and are a single rate spring.

My springs do not sit lower than stock - I simply set them to the lower end of the adjustable range which puts the car slightly below the minimum stock recommended ride height range. I could set them a bit lower than they are but not much.

All this makes me wonder is there are different sets for the 928- can anyone explain this? I sometimes wonder if some vendors [not our heroes] just sell something labelling them for 928's with no knowledge of what a 928 wants. Yes they may be made by Eibach and maybe they do "fit" but whether they are optimal may be something else. As I am aware the set I use was developed in conjunction with Mr Kim Crumb and they still work really well some 12 years on.

Rgds

The Eibach springs are NOT linear rate, they are progressive rate springs. An easy way to tell is the un-equal distance between the coils (not all coils are spaced equally apart). Perhaps there are "other" Eibach springs for the 928 on the market, but the ones I have encountered (and used) are progressive rate.

Cheers!

All the Eibach springs for 928's have been progressive as far as I know - mainly supplied by Mark at 928 Int.
He may chime in with some better facts.

Thanks for the clarification- just stuck my head under the rear of the car whilst it is on jack stands and indeed I would say the top end of the springs does appear to be non linear- older age does funny things!
