Must be a very early brain. Does it have a metal MAP sensor?
I have a pile of EZ-F brains. If you don't mind reflowing the solder on the EPROM holder (common EZF problem), I sell you cheap.

No..it has the later MAP sensor.
Was REALLY looking forward to driving today..
If I can find someone around me (Im without a car today) that can work surface soldering, just swap it out?
Or..I might find my soldering iron. I found my desoldering tool from yrs ago..

I'm no expert, but I think it's called through-hole soldering, not surface. You'll need solder wick or a vacuum.
I would replace the old chip with an EPROM holder. You could damage the chip.

If you are committed, cut the chip body from the legs + remove the legs one at a time + re-flow and suck clean the holes = minimal damage to board.
Edit:
Use appropriate cutter and direct cutting forces toward chip rather than board. You can usually lift leg out with soldering iron tip after heating. Repeat for all and re-flow one at a time. Then solder in your choice of LIF or ZIF socket.

Taking Depami's advice, and canvasing the 'hood for a proper iron (my first attempt with the WRONG iron is apparent)..it was no problem.

You seem to be having a run of misfortune with the 928's at the moment- that looks like a sod of job.
