It's faster than any stock 928, just need to let it rev a little.

In the hands of a very experienced 911 driver it certainly is 300HP about 3,200 lbs. big brakes modern ABS and PSM on many models which will mask a whole bunch of serious driving errors

Thank you everyone for the input. This is great. I love my 84 928S. If I could Id keep both. Just trying to make an informed decision. Like Ive said. The 928S has been like a drunk crack addict old supermodel. Shes increadible to look at when shes not trying to get my wallet.

Check back in in 15 years and let everyone know how your 31 year old 996 is doing

I have posted the same question on both the 928 and the 996 forum for balance. I'm listening to all comments. I have really enjoyed the 928S which was originally purchased as a flip car investment. 2 years later Ive driven and wrenched the hell out of the car fixing everything in sight. Ive enjoyed the experience. Here is the background. At the time I bought the 928S I was driving a very well sorted 944 that Id owned for many years. I fell in love with the whole 928 thing and have enjoyed it. 2 years ago I also bought my wife a 996 for here daily. She enjoys it but doesn't want me autocrossing her daily car. I respect that. Until 6 months ago the 944 was filling that role. Due to money considerations I sold the 944. The 928s for all purposes is actually a better car for my family due to its size. But I have in the back of my mind getting back to more autocross. I tried to use the 928 on the autocross course a few times. Its not as much fun as a light car like the 944 or the 996. Recently we upgraded my wifes daily driver to a 2003 996 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, leaving the 2000 up for sale and listed on this forum as well. But after taking it for a few test drives with customers I actually started to enjoy the drive of the Carrera. SO.... I put forth this question to both Forums to get perspective of others with similar sickness.

Hmm. Straight line "tests" don't bear that true between a stock, but porken chipped 88 s4 and a 2004 911. He tried.... And tried. 30-120.

I've set ftd in my 928. When I had a 90 928GT and the 88 944T at the same time, I would set FTD with the 944T and 2nd in the 90GT. The 944T was not stock. The 944T had a LOT of upgrades and special setup, to harsh to enjoy on a trip.

You don't need 2 996s, do you? Personally, I think the 996 is one of the most unsightly Porsches ever made and the resale values support that comment. You need a 928.

Apples to oranges.

You need to have one for a while to get the true feeling for it. Otherwise all you are doing is comparing it to the 928. They are totally two different machines in almost every way. I was drinking the 928 cool aid for a very long time too. Then got my hands on a non runner 996 and once I got it running, my oppinion changed. The scarries part of the 996 is the weight in the back, you can always feel it when you go into a turn but the car feels light and a lot more nimble. Drive one for a couple of weeks, with an open mind, and you'll see.

Looks like the decision was made for me. My Ebay add had a hit this morning. Someone locally hit the buy it now for the 996. Now if they come and get it the answer has been given.

Just be firm on your price....far too many E-bay "buyers" will try to beat you up on the price by nit picking the car. They know you are happy with the buy it now price they just want to make you a bit less happy and most real local buyers would opt to SEE THE CAR FIRST in my opinion. But what do I know I can never buy a car without seeing it....it is a curse. But I tend to notice far more than most even if the old very brown 1980 looks like a P O S

Sell em both, 84 us is anemic, 996 is butt ugly. Get a more powerful 928 for the best looking gt ride or buy something like a brz or 16 Focus RS or Golf R, my .02
