Default In/out crankshaft seal

My new seal is very different thsn the old one from 78. It is the type with a spring around the inner lip. Problem is that the inner lip wont go over the crank. If I push it it wil go bad.

Am I mistaken is this in (front) or out?

Spring side is always against oil right? Maybe it just needs a good night in the freezer....

90 x 110 x 12. The same RMS used on every 928, and many 944s and 911s of the era. But there are multiple flavors of RMS in the supply chain, you want to get a Porsche seal that has the curved OD partially coated, partially exposed.

Don't use a generic seal here, it's a PITA to have to go back in. BTDT, twice. (You'd think I'd learn....)

Good discussion of the successions of RMSs here: (post #18):

You want the one pictured on the far right in post #21.

You are bad Rob...

I will lube it up before I put it in then

I bought it from Rosepassion in France - of the biggest suppliers here in the EU and with the most appalling customer service.

Shameless plug:

Roger from 928RUS ships to Europe EVERY DAY. Sure, the order starts in TX US, but I assure you'll get the right stuff, with very little delay.

Got a 'side-view' picture of the seal you got from Rosepassion? I'd be interested to see how it's coated (or not).

Rob. Half is coated. They just wrote me that a new is on the way free of charge because of the molding mark. So I guess they have some customer service after all.

Doc. Would you want to pay 50% extra in import taxes, Einstein!?

I don't know how other do it, but I can tell you 928sRUS sells into W Europe all the time, and they are competitive. Or you can just go on getting **** from your local supplier, Robespierre.

I'm out.

Well, there is no reason to be rude.

Vat is between 19 and 25% depending on where you live. Ad 10% in customs and anoter couple of % in fees plus shipping and you have got yourself some expensive parts.

USD/EUR doesnt help either.

A lot of people take offense to being called "Einstein" sarcastically.
