Talking That M3 is getting bigger!

A friend of mine has an '02 M3. By coincidence we found ourselves on an open stretch of I-75 southbound. 4 lanes (in each direction) of no-traffic highway. I was behind him in the left lane. Now, he likes to talk about how he walks away from everyone in his bimmer, but when he put the hammer down something strange happened. In our run from 70 to 130ish, I realed him right in from behind. The whole thing must have lasted no more than 15 or 20 seconds.

The post event discussion was fun, filled with nervous laughter when I asked how a 12 year old $20k car could be faster than his new $60k+ BMW racer. This car never ceases to amaze me.

Ive had a couple M3 Challenges - Lets just say - I was looking at them through a mirror. ANother story another time

There is one M3 I would not want to go against. The car is owned by Dan Mahoney who also owns the new 2 mile AMP motorsport park in Phoenix. Factory Spec Race Car!

I bet the MURF928 guys would love to run into that one... except that's not very likely since it won't ever see the highway!

That is one fast beemer, I kid you not. On a 1.65 mile track w/12 turns - He was running 1.20 lap times w/an average lap speed of 67 mph Or sometting really close to that. (I was working timing and scoring at our last event)

Drewster: You should not feel bad, if a highly modified race car like that M3 beats your stock or near stock 928. If you would put the same effort into a 928, you'd be the king of the track. But you probably would not be able to enjoy your car every day on public roads anymore. Life is full of compromises. Pick the ones you like best!
