Oddly,
I whipped an older IROC Z a year ago on SH 349 coming south from Lamesa to Midland. Amounted to a good 15 minutes of high speed with the lead changing hands at my discretion, of course. A good race.
- Don't tell anyone, this is just between us and everyone on the internet, o.k.?-
There I was rolling back to Midland from Lubbock Intl' Airport, same stretch of road between Lamesa and Midland when -judging from the tires- a 2 or three year old Jag. 4-door sedan, black or dark green, toots it horn and passes at about 85mph.
This thing sounded good! There were three purple-hairs in the car and the lady in the back seat saluted with a flask.
For gigles I accelerated, then some more... then some more...then some more....
Well ... er... uhmmm... Frankly, at 5900 rpm that thing was pulling away.
Ain't that something?
I believe those girls could drink me under the table, too.
That Jag has to go 4000lbs.
I'm not whining here, hell I'm interested.

The 2003 Jaguar XKR is a 4.2 liter *supercharged* V8, putting out 400HP...
The regular XK8 is 4.2 liters, putting out 294 horsepower. 3760 pound car...

Is that B'mmer a PTG ALMS car (I noticed the GT signature, but that looks to be the grand am stickers) If so, any gutted 928 with a stroker could be right with it. Remember, Anderson at Road America ran a 2:18 vs Kevin Buckler in his Lemans winning Porsche GT3RS running 2:16!!!! (500+hp and Light!)
I would say, any car that can keep 2 seconds of that car is king of the hill for all practical circumstances.
All you need is a stroker kit, Carbon fiber intake, decent suspension, big wheels and tires and lots of gutting.

Im only 4 seconds off his time at laguna in a stock 5 liter engine, with headers , suspension and 100lbs more weight and 150less HP!! (vs his 475hp rear wheel!!)

The white car would be interesting to see at the track. Maybe we will see it soon!!! (I dont think it is street legal now. Plus it has more power now than it did when it went over 205mph!!)

Thats what I told GMG motorsports guys with their 2002 M3 after this last speedGT world challenge event at Laguna Seca. I lapped it twice.

So, to your point exactly!, $20 k 928 race car vs $60k gutting up of a brand new 2002 BMW M3. 306hp to the wheels with only a cam (360ish flywhel hp), and my 928 has 325hp to wheels (385hp flywheel) with a nice set of headers!!

which car would you want to race

Now, he likes to talk about how he walks away from everyone in his bimmer, but when he put the hammer down something strange happened. In our run from 70 to 130ish, I realed him right in from behind. The whole thing must have lasted no more than 15 or 20 seconds.

The post event discussion was fun, filled with nervous laughter when I asked how a 12 year old $20k car could be faster than his new $60k+ BMW racer. This car never ceases to amaze me.
