Smile 87 928 s4 kid seats

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and have been searching all over the Internet to find a forward facing car seat for the back seat that I can put my kids into (5 and 6). All the posts I have found refer to car seats that have been discontinued.

Since I don't have a three point harness in my car, I was considering installing one since I'm really not sure if it's legal to put a kid in the back seat with just a lap belt these days.

Can anyone help me find a car seat that will fit? Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Welcome.

How about an introduction and pics of your car if you plan on sticking around here.

Legal Shmegal! When I was a kid I remember sitting on my Uncle's lap and helping him steer the car!, laying on the back seat of my parent's cars and sleeping when we drove home late from Christmas parties and being in the very back cubby of a VW bug all squished up with my brother! It was hot as hell back there!...Those were the days but, Holy Crap would my parents be in trouble!.......

Sorry can't help with the child's seat recommendation for your 928. But like RV said, pics of your car would be welcome!

Spend some time reading thru the FAQ thread posted at the top of this forum.

It talks about using the Search function, which would have come up with several threads about child car seats, such as this one:

Hi there. I checked some forums and all the seats that were referred to were discontinued (as the threads were 5-6 years old that I read).

I bough the 'big kid amp' seat but that's 16 inches and the seats at the narrowest point seem to be 13.

I have a Sunshine Radian 65SL, if you would like to buy it.
Where are you located?

Thanks for the link. While that will fit, I think I feel better about hard plastic than something inflatable :-)

Picks hAve been posted!

Welcome!
Britax made a seat called a Star Riser (Starriser?) that I had and worked well in the back seat.

Crigano,

I'm not sure about the 928 since I'm still doing sound deadening, wiring, etc before installing my interior, but in our 997s Wal-Mart (of all places) sold a Harmony seat, which was quite highly rated, that fit great back there as it has a narrow and tapered base that's only 12" wide at bottom rear. They were less than $50 each, maybe quite a bit less, but I can't recall specifically.

It's a 2-piece unit so the backrest can be easily attached to become a simple seat booster, but the backrest is nice because the top portion is adjustable for height and has side impact protection "wings" which my kids really liked for taking naps in the car and having somewhere to rest their heads. My 10 year old daughter is sad she's outgrown hers. They came in 2 colors, black with silver trim and black with pink trim which worked out perfectly for us as my 997 is silver and my wife's pink pearl so we had a pair in each car, and also why the pic has mixed color schemes as that's what was handy in the garage this morning.

Here are a few pics - see if Wal-Mart still sells them.

+1 on the Sunshine Radian. I have two in my 928 used by my 6 year old daughters.

Here is the full thread on the Sunshine Radian, including discussion about where to buy the latch anchors. If your car does not have the latch anchors already, there is a hole that is already drilled and tapped under your carpet.

Also, once they outgrow the kid seats, there are plenty of threads on the parts needed to convert to a 3-point rear seat. That will be on my "to do" list in the next year or two.

I wish that was an option for me as well, but with the convertible soft top, no place for a top anchor.
