Eastwood has their MIG welders on sale.

Sorry, nothing constructive to offer, but if you want to use the new lid, looks like you'll have to swap the hinges on the box or the lid.

Why not just sand, primer and paint the lid that's on there? I like the looks on that truck-bed liner stuff myself, and it's probably five times more resistant to battery acid than any piant product.

Edit: I see you finally got the lid off.

Good luck, with your project.

Brian.

The old lid has a hole and the PO snipped a chunk out where the ground cable goes. The edges are sharp and keep scratching the insulation of the new ground cable.

The truck bed liner is amazing stuff, you can scab in a patch put the liner on it and it will hide the patch and soften all of the edges, I just coated a metal cover on my sons Volvo R that was abrading the fuel pump wires, really nice.

I can also say from my dead pedal redo that it adds a noticeable amount of strength.

If you go the hinge switch method, you might want to switch them on the car, instead of the panel, less likely to warp if you weld, and less noticeable. However it is much easier to repaint the lid, so a tough choice.

If you look at PET there is only one part number. Can you guys check which way yours are.
And the PET shows one part number for all years.

Mine is the same as your new one, easy enough to see how the mistake could be made, the attachment flanges are symmetrical, and without taking it apart it is difficult to see which side is male and which female. It would likely have been assembled with the hinge together. A little dyslexia and the odd one could end up reversed.
