928 in White
Hi all,
I was wondering what your opinion was on the white paint on a 928. I've found a great one for sale in my area and I'm in absolute love with it, but the white paint seems to have me biting my tongue just a tiny bit. It's got black leather interior and still looks wicked cool though. Still a beaut just not what I guess my very first choice would be - if it was in anything metallic (especially that great platinum) it would've been in my garage yesterday!! (and a paint job seems a little rediculous don't you think)
I just don't want to pass up this great opportunity as it seems pretty perfect otherwise. Let me know what you all think. Thanks!
p.s. I'm tempted to dip the wheels in some chrome if I make the deal. Thoughts on that with the white?

The colour of the paint is probably the last consideration you should have when purchasing a 928 much as it is the most emotive. They are all problemmatical, rarely will you find a 928 that does not give you problems and arguably half the fun of 928 ownership is sorting them out.
Personally I think white is a great colour for the 928 and particularly so for the GTS with the red strip on the rear bumper line- it just looks awesome IMHO.
The main thing that you should factor into your purchase considerations is how much to allow for what you are getting yourself into and will invariably need to keep it running as it should. Make sure you have a good PPI done by someone who knows what to look for., preferably recommended by this list. It also helps greatly if you know the previous owner and what he has done to keep on top of things.
If you have done all this and you are down to a final decision based on colour well done.
"Chance favours the prepared mind" - are you prepared correctly?
Good luck wth your decision[s].

Mine is Chiffon White, kind of a cream color. I love it. The People's Choice trophy it won at Third Coast this year suggests others don't find it too ugly. You don't show your location but, if it is in a warm weather area, you might find white an advantage. It doesn't absorb heat the way dark colors do. I've found that nice with a 928 because all that rear glass is a real greenhouse!
All that said, if you don't like white, wait for a car with a color you do like. 928s have a far larger color choice than most cars from their era.

White looks great, especially with dark tinted windows. Black interiors are the best wearing. If the Cari's otherwise sound, go for it.

What year? Early cars can look very nice with the f/r spoliers contrasting with the whiteness, black interior is about the best. FYI there was one pearl white GTS that looked really good. It's a personal thing, I am not a white car guy but it is in no way a disliked color on 928's.

The great white shark!
I hated it at first but love it now.

body shops love to shoot white. It hides more than any color. Still, I like white and it reduces heat load on a sunny day. I had an 86 Golf 5sp in white that I loved. -smoothest running CIS four banger I ever owned. You could put a cup of coffee on that engine at any rpm with nary a ripple.

Personally, I think white is one of the best looking colors on a 928. On the other hand, an all black interior on any vehicle is an automatic deal breaker for me. Unless the car is next to free and I can justify changing out the interior there is no way I'd ever own one.
It's all personal opinion...if deep down inside you don't like the white, move on to something else.
If you like it, buy it! Don't be one of those people who needs the approval of others, or worse yet, buys a color combo they dislike simply for the future resale value.
