thx all...........with the shaft and bearings out I cleaned and cleaned the tube in and out.

Installation of the Super bearings was essentially per the instructions.

The well lubed shaft (no other way to say it) slipped through the bearings and was positioned correctly.

Im now installing new shifter parts then the rebuilt TT will be re-fitted to the gbox and engine.

For those on a work out/weight loss program this adventure helps greatly

Awesome news!

That lube works well doesn't it?

Good luck with the rest of the project.

Make sure that -09 arm gets the ball bushing and gets installed in the car, a GTS TOB plus GTS pressure plate plus an -07 release arm = pain and tears.

Figured this out the hard way on the Cobalt GT- The car had a GTS release bearing, PP, and guide tube mixed with an 07 release arm. Getting the arm on the ball was a bear and a half. Then I managed (again) to screw up the RMS, so the clutch came out to fix that. Whereupon I discovered the difference between the -07 and the -09:

-07:

-09: ~2mm thinner = much easier to maneuver onto the ball...

Malcolm's crossing streams. The release arm topic is from another thread. The tidbit to be filed away is that GTS release arms seem to have be used starting in '93. So ROW '92s (and therefore early US early '93) have a non-GTS release arm.

I'm fascinated. I wonder if the GT arm's t/o bearing interface had been modified or not? This would be an interesting datum. When I discovered that early-'93 GTSs don't have GTS release arms it was because the PP could not rotate with the GTS bearing installed with the old arm.

This is correct for my GTS which was built in early 92.

If you need something measured I have both arms available this morning.

Thanks. That comment/question was for Rob. I'm of the opinion that our collective experience is that a clutch system with an old arm and a new bearing will result in a big bang and a shower of metal after not too many uses.

Rob's GT ... um, I mean Mark's GT, had an old arm with the new bearing. Why did it work? Was it modified? Or did the PO somehow get lucky?

TT installed, bolts torqued, shifter all connected.

Anyone have the torque value for the grub screw for the shift rod/transmission?

Haven't gotten to Mark's yet but for posterity here's an -09 release arm sitting and pivoting on an -08 TOB, to show the relationship of the two:
