TT suspension

I managed to get the TT shaft half out where it seems to have stuck to the point the 'broom handle' must have gotten diverted after the first brg as its all past the tube end (5' long).
I thought I could perhaps attack from the other end to move the brgs with the recommended 3" pipe.......no movement there either.
appreciate comments, thoughts, help!!!

Fun job Malcolm! I replaced the nearly identical TT on the C4S last fall - very rare for one of the bearings to start howling on a 993: had a spare tube in stock, so avoided a rebuild step ... although Constantine likely has the goods for that TT as well.
Thinking of adding a 957 P!G, so have been lurking a bit on that forum .... only to see you appearing to pester them with newbie questions - congrats on the 'other' GTS

Hi Malcolm,
The broom handle should be able to knock the drive shaft completely out of the bearings and tube. You have to feel the end of the drive shaft with every hammer blow.
If you leave the drive shaft in the tube you are fighting its resistance as well as the bearings resistance against the inner tube walls.
For the removal stage only, you can also use sections of wooden fence post to knock out the bearings.
Make sure you really soak the inner walls with WD-40.

We also have a fix for the broken drive shaft problem of the 993.

HTH,
appreciate your comments.......as mentioned I wasn't paying attention to the progress of shaft movement as I banged on the broom handle......somehow the broom has lost its way inside the tube

Another hour or so in the garage today produced good results:
the RMS popped out per the sharp hammer whacks on rightsized screwdriver via the crankcase notch method
the clutch pilot brg was removed using the nut and bolt locked in place by a allan key method
TT shaft was soaked with PB and will worked tomorrow (no time left today)

update from yesterday:
the new clutch pilot brg is installed as was the Rear Main Seal.
the TT shaft remains stuck about 110 cm out........its loose enough I can move it from side to side and turn it but its as if a bearing or damper is welded to the shaft and gets stuck behind the last bearing........Ive lubed and hammered on the shaft with a long metal rod but getting no where fast.
appreciate further suggestions, TIA

Got a friendly local garage with a 2 post lift that rises to 8 feet? Take a 2x4 inside the TT and use one of the lift carriages to push it out.

You will have to remove that drive shaft completely out of the TT before doing anything else. I would get another wooden broom handle and get it done, being careful to not do what happened before. Then you can do as Rob said and use a lift to start pushing everything out. That broom handle now in the TT between the bearings will come out after one of the end bearings comes out of the TT. Then you can push the rest out.

yipee!!!!
Success!!!..........I finally got the shaft out followed by the bearings/dampner.
The problem was one of the bearings got turned inside the tube....big muscle/hammer/steel rod and much noise got 'er done. Now clean up the tube, insert the new Constantine brgs and Gregs shaft....might just have a beer
