Is there a rise in interest in the 928?

Ive got a rare 66 911, with a matching numbers engine, and I dont think I could crack 35k in Australia... Having said that, these 928`s are worth what someone is willing to pay, nothing more, nothing less.. Ive got an 87 manual, non matching numbers (its got a GT engine) mint, perfect.. awesome car.. I`d take 30k for it.

I was offered 15k for my 90 GT which I declined. I would take 25k but it needs some work.

I thought of this thread today, there is a CL ad up locally which lists as a WTB 928 5 speed.
I usually associate a WTB ad with the 356's and air cooled 911's. Maybe this is a sign of things to come.
Or, maybe it's just a sadist looking for a car that will take up every spare moment of his life and eat up all his disposable income. Lol.

The 911 I would say is now also in pretty good condition, however, it is a racing car. Google 304060 and you will find it on the Pelican forums.

I was at a "wings and wheels " cruise night last week out side Boston and a guy with a brand new Porsche 911 Turbo S ($180k) was all over my car asking questions, where did I get it, are there still 928's out there in this type condition etc. About 2-3 other people came up and said they were looking to buy a 928 and where is best places to look. Definitely people out there with $$ looking to get into the classic car hobby.

There are many rennlist members right here (me included) that can and would build a special 928 or restore one to as-new condition for a customer if asked.
I chose to spend next to nothing on my RS build because the return will not be there and i don't waste money on cars much anymore. But, when no longer saving for College i would like to ring Rob Budd and have a custom interior put together. I'd also like to design and have special equipment manufactured but right now that isn't wise because values are so low. This may annoy some but it's just how it is. I'm currently looking for a suitable 911 donor for a build.
Singer is not needed to build a great 928, money is.
There is everyone needed to build a "Singer 928" right here.
What is lacking is the Buyers for such a build.
I was recently very serious about buying an early 928 to restore but after crunching the numbers it would not pay to do so. The interiors are almost always toast and this would eat any potential reason for me to take the time (very limited) to restore a classic 928.

Yes there are people looking to buy 928's. But around here they all seem to want a perfect car for nothing. I have replied to at least 3 locals looking for a 5spd 928, but all want to pay dirt.
Interest is there, but I think we need a couple more years for the Junkers to get crushed. Still way to many cheap and neglected 928's for sale, at least arround here.
But the market in Ontario is crap, I'm sure we will see prices rise first in warmer climates like the southern US.

^Yes exactly ^
With the bottom feeding going on still, who will pay what a real high end custom build costs?
It would be very easy for me if not spending my own money to call Rob Budd and ask him to put together a 928 interior on par with the Singer 911. It's just the money.
It would be easy to build an early 928 in a muted retro Porsche color, source a $25,000 GTS motor (if lucky) or a $60,000 stroker motor from one of the seasoned motor builders here, design special wheels, special interior and trims etc.
I would just need to know when all done spending six figures that there is a Buyer.
There may be a few but that's a very big maybe and very big risk.

Every time I take my 928 to the Leesburg, VA C&C the owner of a new Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston, etc. will comment how much they like my 928 (lately the 5-spoke Panamera wheels get a lot of attention as a great look update). They all want 5 speeds in at least Category 1, 2, or 3 (Hagerty scale) condition. Mine is a little better than a 3 and they like it. But they have money to buy the 1 or 2 and would still think the prices are bargains. They specifically say they have no interest in the "basket cases". One guy said he went to see a 928 and the seller kept lowering the price. Finally, he had to tell the seller "Look, you can't pay me enough to take your car". So, they are looking for quality. Interest is steadily rising month over month. Last Sunday more people were hovering around my 928 than the adjacent Aston Martin and Nissan GTR. A nice looking 928 is rare and the design looks modern even today --- that was the most common comment I received. Oh...and they (and their kids) love the pop up headlights.

FWIW what I am seeing is that the prices are going up.
This model has been a poor mans posture model,
and any potential sellers should ask more for their cars.
Lets face it if you have a car thats been well cared for,
it should command a serious premium over a neglected door stop.
