My guess would be injesting water.. But there is no coolant in an intake manifold.. which makes me think the motor had an intake leak and someone washed the engine with a hose or drove through a really big puddle. Agree or disagree?!

Engine is used.. gonna use it as a donor until I get my original back up to par. I was told the motor has been sitting for a few years. So your thinking it's just moisture that built up?

I've seen one whiter and more uniform than that due to running lean from several partially clogged injectors.

Yours may just be corrosion from sitting though.

So are you planning on dropping that into a car as is or rebuilding it first?

I like to at least look over the bottom end with the oil pan off and have the heads done with new head gaskets.

My plan is to do minimal work to this donor. Yes the pan will be coming off to replace the gasket, motor was sitting on the floor on the pan so clearly crushed the gasket, can evaluate then. Head gaskets.. no. No sign of a leak so I'm not gonna get into it. I am going to put my intake on it and be done with it. Then I can take the original and rebuild it properly on my schedule and when I have a few extra bucks.
