whats the backspacing of the rim.... looking for a number like.. 8" moutng surface to inner edge.
295 should fit well.... roll fender with wood baseball bat to completely take down that edge, smoothly without hurting the paint.
below are how the 9s fit 275s and we were able to put a 1/2 spacer on the hub and it makes a tight fight but in no way rubs.
(also my 305s fit on 11s with 8" backspacing)

I can tell you that the 11's would not work on my 87 with any rubber. They simply stuck out to far with factory S4 fenders. On your 84 you will have the same problem me thinks.
Right now I have the 295's on the 10" ET 58 and there's is very little clearance between the tire and fender. Maybe 4mm. Being that an ET 51 is 7mm father out and 1" wider they just don't fit without fender mods.
Hers is a pic showing
how close the 295/35's are to the fenders with the 10" et 58 wheel.

Yes, if I rolled the fender and put a 3mm spacer on they would be fine. They currently rub on the inside. 10" et 58. I will be going down to a 275 or 265/35 since I need new tires any way. The 295's came with the rims and are almost done.
