Steering Rack Boots. Hard to get on

I had a mechanic that I believe was missing a gene (or two) regarding pain.
He'd never had a dentist give him an injection when working on his teeth. Drill for a filling close to the nerve? No problem. He said it just didn't hurt.
Anyway, I think the whole "lack of pain" also applied to his fingers. He'd hook his fingers inside the boots and pull them right over the end of the rack (with his fingers inside). He'd then simply pull his fingers out from under the boots!
I tried it once....it hurt me.
Impressive enough pain that I never considered doing that again.
However if you're one of those lucky people with the high pain tolerance, it's a really fast way to get the boots on.

Three Wheelin'
Hey, let's keep an open mind here, but my method made easy was a retractor.
Anybody can get these, there is one (Alm) on ebay right now for $22.00 I believe.
You can look for a Gelpi, Weitlander, or Alm retractor. You will want three or four prongs on it to hold the boot open properly while you position it.
This is the one I used:

I have seen those in the OR. MR Merlins trick, and Lube worked well. Just had to get it started. Once it got over the initial hump, it was just a matter of pulling it up. I got to do the drivers side twice because I did not do the outer end first, and it pulled the end off. Live and learn...
