1982 928 Prototype Roadster at Barrett-Jackson
I know this car has been discussed on Rennlist before, but for those who haven't seen it, I thought I'd post a few pictures of this "rare" 1982 "Prototype" Roadster, or 928 Spyder as it's designated on the rear of the car that sold this past week at Barrett-Jackson for $30k.
Interesting to see in person. A LOT of work went into this, and while it's not really my taste (too bulbous for me), it is an interesting piece of 928 history.

Thats the Wingho spyder..
More info on it here:

And the original website for it is stored in the internet archive - was up until only a couple of years ago.

And here's a crowd offering to convert cars (old website tho.. 2001?)

Thanks Hilton and Jim, I knew this (these?) car had been discussed before. Interesting it went for only $30k, when it's advertised on the Wingho site for $80k, although is does say price is NEGOTIABLE!
Maybe there are still a few bargains to be had at Barrett-Jackson...

Victor (the supercharger Victor) had one of the Spyderwerks (last link) cars at the Dubuque gathering last summer.
It looked pretty cool, if you like the styling.
But the build quality was lacking. Plastic (plexi or polycarbonate) door windows, no "safety bar" inside the door structure, body panel fit was not the greatest.

Looks too much like a cross between a Pontiac Solstice and a Saturn Sky (which are essentially the same car) for my taste.
Although my 928 Sypder is still very much a work in progress, I like it considerably better as it maintains more of its original 928-ness like the lay-down headlights, an actual top so it can be used in the rain, use of the rear seat for small passengers both with the top up and down, the rear taillights, etc. Here are a few current pics.

A Plymouth Prowler took some viagra, and then got involved in a weird 3-way with a Mercedes SLS and a Miata. Not sure which would have given birth, but that is definitely the offspring.

Chalkboss, polecat, & soontobered,
Thanks for the compliments, I really appreciate it. This is also one of only 2 928 convertibles I've seen that I really like - the other is a widebody Strosek that I've only seen photos of, which I think is in Europe somewhere.
Of the 3 P-cars that are mine (not counting the wife's pink 997), each is a completely different car with a different driving experience, and I love all of them. Can't wait to get the 928 Spyder fully put together as it's going to be be a pretty sweet setup with some new leather pieces from Rob Budd and a nice 1,000 watt sound system - needed for overcoming the wind noise, SC whine, etc
