It could have been a styling exercise for the Boxster.

I would like to see it in the metal, actually like it in the pictures.

Actually calling it a prototype implies it leads to something..... this was at best a "kit car" or re-body of an existing car. Subsequent attempts to make them were terrible failures. And yes I saw one of them up close

OK, flame suit donned in readiness. I like it. As design exercises go this one is coherent and well thought out (my only reservation is the hot-tubbish cockpit, although I very much like its details). To me, not every design that starts with the 928 has to slavishly follow its lines. Look at the Italian variations on automakers themes by Touring, Scaglietti, Bertone, Zagato, and of course Pinin Farina, et al - certainly a dud or two, but who would criticize the idea itself of variation on a theme? A poorer world of design would result were it not for this freedom to extemporize and improvise. We are not guarding a sacred flame, we are enjoying, among other things, a part of automotive history, and I think it is fascinating to see the way it can be expressed. No problem with those who don't like this particular iteration, just please, dislike it for some other reason than that it doesn't look enough like the ur-928. End'o'rant. (But I should be in a REALLY GOOD MOOD and not rant , because I just scored the last set of Roger's new and improved cam sprockets! Last for now, of course - c'mon Roger...)

Your's Pete is Very nice. It looks like the factory prototype in the museum.

In fact, it's hard to imagine any improvement to it.

That red thing is a V8 Miata.

I like that 928 trike that popped up on CL a while ago better.

The "work in progress" part is the interior, so you don't want photos of that yet, but it will have some nice Rob Budd leather upgrades, updated GT/GTS door panels with Focal 3-way component speakers, a sharkwoofer, power heated seats from a GT, GTS Big Black front calipers with 2-piece 993TT slotted rotors, new Konis, HID headlights, aero mirrors, and a bunch of other stuff I've acquired for the project. Just fabricated a divider wall to separate the passenger compartment from the trunk in case of fumes and so nothing in the trunk shoots forward in an accident or under heavy braking. Lots left to do...

I don't think it looks that bad, just something different and utterly non-functional (no top and no windows and still over $300k in the making?).

Piling on:
HTML Code:
it is an interesting piece of 928 history
. Semantics: Not a part of 928 history, if so then any abomination with pop rivets out there would also qualify and there are a few of those (and there was one w/drywall screws in the dash). At first glance it looks nicely executed, if poorly conceived, but look at the center cassette box, doesn't fit with/over tunnel at all. Nice for what it is, I'm just not sure what it is.

What would you like to know??

Yes I had one for many months. It went back to the original owner, because he could not get a proper title for me. I was happy to send it back, as it had many many issues. But... I can tell you pretty much anything you would like to know now.
I will tell you, that you do not want one!! I thought it could be turned into something very cool, but I'm sorry to report it's a Frankenstein abomination.

I agree with you.

But it is an interesting car anyway, even if its a failure.

Right, it hasn't anything to do with Porsche 928 excellence.

It actually undermines the model. (But that's being a bit dramatic as not many exist..)

What it is?

German Miata.
